I hope they change that. One of the reasons I switched to Cubase was that it was the only full-featured host with dedicated track EQ's. Now, we tend to use 3rd-party, high-quality EQ's more, but it would be great if hosts included at least a high-quality option for the track EQ's. Alas, one can dream...or get an SSL Duende... :P

yeah i guess it would be real nice to have a nicew dedicated track eq., I have Kjaarhus GEQ-7 and by default I load it into my insert, I never really "wished" for a better host plug, but damn why not?? How hard can it be for Cubase to incorparate this, hell that can 'buy' out one of the fine devolopers here,, It all seems so simple eh?

Yeah - what's nuts is that both "Q" and "Q-Metric" both use nadda CPU and sound great (especially the forgotten Q-Metric). They could just code those into the mixer instead of what they got now! I think it's time to make a new template...

I used to defend the SX track EQ's, but when I go back and listen to mixes where I relied upon those, hoi....more brittle than Carol Channing's cookies...

Q does look the same doesn't it, but also does sound better. From the blurb, it's based on the Tonic filter somehow or other.

Cubase has some excellent FX. Some of them are still my first automatic choice.

The vocoder is better than any freebie, although there are better commercial ones, for sure.

Magento...basic, but I still love its character.

QuadraFuzz to my ears is still better than any VST distortion out there - maybe not for the way-out overdone obvious distortion, but its real selling point is that you can actually use it as a more subtle overdrive almost - still a rare thing in VST land.

The reverb - personally I don't like it, but there are many who seem to love Ambience. It's the same thing, so as with all reverbs - you either loove it or hate it.

Tonic - Love it. Another one where they nailed the overdrive properly. When you use the drive, you can almost start to hear some real character oozing into it - unlike even most commercial filters - which I still think are below par. (Again...personal taste only)

StepFilter - another one that has real potential - mainly in the mid bands, but not unuseable for prope LPF and LPF too. And the step sequencer is a great device. The two filters in Cubase are my preferred ones even over OhmForce ones for example.

Flanger - not as flexible as some others, but it sounds fine for a standard flanger - same with the chorus and phaser. I haven't really heard any freebie ones that I'd have to use instead. it's only when you get into the commercial realm that things take off - Mobilohm for example - that's a real cracker, but it does 500 times more things than the Cubase phaser even attempts to do, so of course it is better.

Multiband - it's actually a very good multiband. I strongly think it should have more control over each band - that is my real complaint - I can't change release characteristics for example :x , but overall it's a good strong and clean sound. Better than SlimSlow etc - although not as flexible. I always found the SlimSlow one very muddy if you use anything above the most moderate settings. But if you want specialFX, then SlimSlow has more potential.
As mentioned...the soft clip quite drastically reduces the effectiveness of the multiband - better to use Cubase multiband followed by something like a TBT one if you need to limit.

The midigate - a superbly useful plugin that many seem completely unaware of.

Even the simple tube thing is OK, as long as you want simple thickening, and not outright distortion.

That's a good set of effects just on their own.

As usual, Snooky probably hasn't even heard the Cubase FX, so he doesn't really know what they sound like...

Many of the Cubase FX are well under-rated. For sure, I use other delays, other compressors, other reverbs and other Eqs - but no single host (especially not Logic) has a full set of FX that are good enough on their own. No host IMO has even close to a good enough reverb - they're all rubbish. But so are the freebies... :? I would have to spend US$200 minimum before I was happy with the quality of a VST reverb. And compared to the whole price of Cubase...that's actually quite a chunk, just for one single effect.

Oooooh...jeez...I'd have to agree with ttoz on this one. Even I would have to acknowledge that Logic ships with a pretty enviable set of effects...

EDIT: Good rundown as always, Kritikon. My god, "MIDIGATE!". Yep, I'm one of those schmoes who forgets about that one, every year.

you really should take a longer look at sonar producer5.

The included effects are VERY good - the sonitus and the perfect space also offer great verbs.

Kind regards

My God, don't forget the only Lexicon plug-in! :-o Bastards!

Dave, I agree that Sonar ships with some real winners, but I'd rather sell my first-born than switch.

Personally I don't like the lexicon. If it didn't have lexicon written on it I think far fewer people would use it ;)

Yeah, that's probably likely! you know which reverb I loved and now miss? The Cakewalk DSP-FX Reverb. Beautiful, underrated reverb. Wish it worked in other hosts. :(

I actually used only Cubase plugs on an experimental
song a year ago. :o It was kind of fun and a lot of work
to get it to sound descent. :ud:

The best thing with the Cubase/Wavlab plugs is that they
dont use so much cpu. :tu:

Quadrafuzz (on snare), vocoder & stepfilter are rather nice. :)

Free plugs?? I mostly only use dBlue glitch, Klanglabs Backman,
LiveCut & some other simular plugs that I dont remember the name of?

Perhaps not comparable with the basic Cubase plugs? :P
Cheers Bob

Oh man, you want to talk about the worst interfaces EVER!?!? Totally unuseable in Cubase. I do wish they'd update these; you're right: they are great-sounding. Love their chorus.

You know, if there's one builtin cubase plugin I love, it's doubledelay. It's so damn simple to use, and you can easily get whatever delay effect you want without hassle. 90% of the time I don't need a multi-tap delay, so it finds a use in almost everything I do.
