As some of you may know, I had some problems with the Toxic III uninstaller and posted here as a warning to others. I see IL coming in for stick about customer service once in a while - and let's face it , with a userbase that big, you simply cannot keep all of the people happy all of the time - but my experience has been the opposite.

This post, therefore, is to say thank you to image-line for the excellent treatmentI have had from them since my problem.

Not only was the (un)installer fixed super-quick, but the guys at IL (JMC in particular) have treated me like a human being, compensated me for my inconvenience and have generally been pleasant to deal with.

I have bought from IL before and will buy from them again, no doubt.

JMC has PM'd me as well and I will be letting them know what I lost as a result of the faulty Toxic III uninstaller. As you all may or may not know, it deleted my entire VSTI folder - with over 150GB of data and presets - a LOT (right around 10GB of sample loops and data and hundreds and hundreds of presets) of which was products I was working on for a variety of companies and for my own products I was going to be releaseing. Now I will have to start all over again and some synths and data I may have lost forever.

I am still a bit devestated over losing the data - I had some GREAT stuff done.

FLS is the best for MIDI programming! Long live Image-Line!!! :D

I'm not saying anyone has or will, but don't rip them off, you have to take a degree of responsibility for storing non vst related stuff in your VST folders. ;)

Post

Wow Mike I'm sorry to hear that. What a loss. People got mad when I questioned a developer about beta testing his uninstaller program in a free plugin. See what can happen.

unfortunately its true. That is a VERY large amount of stuff to have in there. Sample Data and recordings shouldnt really be on that same drive, but okay...

Wrong. You should be able to store your data any way that you see fit. You should NOT have to worry about a simple uninstall program deleting the whole folder one level up. What if it deleted two levels up or more? Having said that, wasn't the Installer done by Maxx Claster and not Imagine Line? Not sure but either way I.L. has a responsibilty to check it's new products especially from third parties. If it was Maxx's uninstaller I'm sure is was just an oversight, he's a really nice guy and Imagine Line has always treated me great. It's just an error that unfortunately cost Mike a lot of work. Sure you could say back up,back up,back up, but in no way should any blame be put on the end user if a piece of software's uninstaller is faulty.

Post

ummm... yeah, you are allowed to store whatever you want where, but that doesnt mean its smart for ANY purpose.

Its imagelines fault 100 percent --

but its still not smart to put all that stuff in one folder....

i mean, 150 gb ???

for instance, what if you have a system crash and you need to reinstall windows? Isnt it a bit smarter to put all of your sample, preset, and project data on other drives, so that you just have to reinstall the associated plugins after you clear out windows??

Tek,

I backed up SOME of it - but most of the data I lost was for recent products and clients that are only a month or two old. Worse, I have deadlines and NONE of them can now be met. I was finished with almost ALL of them. Now I have to start over and risk losing those clients. Not to mention my own stuff that will now not see light of day that much sooner (or in this case, later).

By the way, I keep my data in those folders because they are for synths - others and my own - so not only is it convenient to have them in the same folder, but necessary in many cases.

Lastly, The demo was TWO LEVELS deep - j:\library\vst\demos\toxic III demo

EVERYTHING from j:\library\vst
was deleted. Further, I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL when I realized what was happening and I really feel it would have deleted more than just that folder had I not stopped it - and THAT would have been catastrophic!!!

and Jason Brian Merrill . . . I have NOTHING to say to you dude. I saw a jew crack from you (and some others) in another thread and was too pissed to even comment at that time. I know you are allowed your opinion and I believe in free speech and creative thought, but I would truly appreciate that you refrain from such comments - I appreciate your acceptance of my request.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying 'bad luck, it was your own fault', i'm just saying that incidents such as this are not new, therefore a degree of responsibility must be accepted for not making sure your data is safe. Of course it's not expected that uninstalling a vst demo is going to hose your system, but storing important data in a folder that also contains executables who's job it is to delete files and folders is never a good idea.
