I've always thought was a funny demo, too. You do hear the bitcrushing when it happens, but it actually sounds pretty cool.

I just use FX Lord.

Or this crazy old stuff. :hihi:

Any bitcrushing distortion FX will sound great on drums ...

Glitch, Metallurgy and Cyclotron rule!

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this one but I just got InstaJungle...and that is actually a pretty badass AU. Check that too if you guys haven't already, its free.

Try programming the hats in 3/4 timing, the kick in 7/4 timing and the snare in 4/4.. if you switch around the different timings for the beats as well, that give some interesting results. So for a bar the kick might be in 7/4 but the next bar switch it to 4/4 and switch whatever used to be in 4/4 to 7/4 - sounds convoluted?? Its supposed to ;)
Hmm that's interesting. I think I hear a lot of that in groups like Plej, Afuken. Do you switch up the time signatures in the sequencer or do you leave your sequencer at 4/4? Do you use a sequencer that lets you adjust the time signature for each track or something? Not sure how that works.
I basically do it manually in most cases, only because currently an EXT seq. can only have one time signature - if tracks could have independent time sigs...

Anyway.. if you're in 4/4 then you know 7/4 is only three extra crotchets to a bar, I use my ears to decide where the beats should go. So essentially you do it manually, counting the beats as you would normally, but the seq runs in 4/4.

If tracks could have their own time signature (and even tempo perhaps) information and it was fully automatable you could definitely get some strange stuff happening.

A lot of electronic musos I feel are applying jazz traditions to their music without even knowing it, although I'm sure some of them are consciously doing it also.
I've got a piece of hardware called the Radikal Technologies Spectralis, it's quite cool in that it's pattern sequencer can have independent step/gate lengths, independent track lengths, and independent pattern lengths for each of it's 32 parameter lines which can be assigned to pretty much any internal parameter or external MIDI notes/aftertouch. Also, it's got trigger probabilities per step (per sequencer line), for those that like to add a little aleatory.

So running layered time signatures, changing time signatures mid-track, creating melodies and harmonies out of layered sequences of different lengths, it's all quite intuitive. :)

There is software around that can do this kind of thing, but the real trick of it all is that the Spectralis is really quick and easy to get around - if you know what you're doing, of course.

Also for free, Image, Glitch Jockey... so underrated. :(

Try telling that to the jazz people who break the rules by playing jazz standards.

Might be used more if it had midi implementation, lots of freestyle involved in glitch, lots of freestyle. Still shouldn't look a gifthorse in the mouth..

Btw, I recommend CamelPhat & CamelSpace, Metallurgy-(excellent bang for buck here!), LiveCut, Supertrigga, Lucifer for glitch trax. Also, absynth has alot of tools for really glitching things up!

Get into circuit bending - or mda degrade by mda or reception by i cant remember both free-

been using dblue glitch and it's very good!
But I could go for Heizenbox too, ju st for the very good looking gui
