Came across this: a software emulation of the Notron

Mac-only at the moment, with ports for Win and IntelMac to come...

that looks like fun sean... you'd loose out on the tactile interface of the notron i suppose, which is a shame, but i'll be keeping an eye out for this.

Yup, but I'd hope it allowed MIDI control (or better yet, MIDI learn) from one's own hardware...blaster78 wrote:that looks like fun sean... you'd loose out on the tactile interface of the notron i suppose, which is a shame, but i'll be keeping an eye out for this.
Now all you need is a keyboard with 4 modwheels

Sad that stuff like this and numerology is always on the Mac.
On the other hand a good sequencer is about the interface and in the case of a hardware sequencer you really need a hardware interface... At least indented rotaries + buttons, but preferably the endless wheels (which I guess were just rotaries turned sideways + a bizarro knob?).
I see that these are the iCE people also. That could be a positive or negative statement.
Seem to remember at least a minor controversy about them on some of the max lists...

hehe, i saw this thread and thought norton came out with a sequencer.
that was scary.

Hmmm, PCs get stuff like Audiomulch, Phrazor and eXT though.contrast wrote:Sad that stuff like this and numerology is always on the Mac.
There's a hardware page at that site. It says 'coming soon'On the other hand a good sequencer is about the interface and in the case of a hardware sequencer you really need a hardware interface... Really? My curiosity is piqued, must go lookI see that these are the iCE people also. That could be a positive or negative statement.Seem to remember at least a minor controversy about them on some of the max lists...

Audiomulch, phrazor, ext, and so forth to be sure but no nice hardware-type sequencing. Really would like something like Reaktor but more streamlined for building sequencers somehow + much better midi/osc support. I think the target market for something like that is in the single digits so I doubt it will happen.
I could be remembering wrong on the controversy thing, it was a long time ago, I just recalled them rubbing some people the wrong way. Or maybe just me.
In any case if they've done a nice software version of the notron that's wonderful, even at the price they are asking it is surely cheaper and easier to track down and more reliable than an original one.

Ah, is that what you meant. Sorry, I thought you were just talking about innovative sequencers in general.contrast wrote:Audiomulch, phrazor, ext, and so forth to be sure but no nice hardware-type sequencing.
Building Blocks fits that bill, but it hasn't been developed in a while. Maybe ArtWonk and its siblings. And of course SynthEdit and SynthMaker can be pressed in that direction as well.Really would like something like Reaktor but more streamlined for building sequencers somehow + much better midi/osc support. Perhaps not directly what you're talking about but at least there are some things to look at....
All I can find is around the time of its announcment and people complaining that they called it 'necessary externals' in the press release, and the fact that there wasnt enough information on what it did. Cant be arsed digging deeper.I could be remembering wrong on the controversy thing, it was a long time ago, I just recalled them rubbing some people the wrong way. Or maybe just me.![]()
Indeed. In any case if they've done a nice software version of the notron that's wonderful, even at the price they are asking it is surely cheaper and easier to track down and more reliable than an original one.

Hmmm.
I think I'll hang on to my Notron. I like the hands on feel of its control wheels and the ability to immediately access each step.
Plus I like the rattly sound of its ball-bearing type switches.

Nothing's new about it; in fact the original Notron was doing it before eXT ever existed.maki wrote:but what is so new with 4 sequencers at different bmp? EnergyXT can load bunch of MidiParts and sequencers with different bmp.
But of course a sequencer is only good if it does thing that are 'new', yeah?
For those who might actually be interested in what the Notron is, withoutcompolaining just because its got features that other packages might have these days, here's the Sound On SOund review from '97:

We could sample the rattly sound of its ball-bearing type switches and playback them while we controll four sequencers in energyXT with other hardware controllers that do not produce that rattly sound.Notron User wrote:Hmmm.

I love the look of the "Darth Vader's toilet seat lid" Mk I. I've got a Mk II version which is a blue keystone shaped metal box.whyterabbyt wrote: For those who might actually be interested in what the Notron is, withoutcompolaining just because its got features that other packages might have these days, here's the Sound On SOund review from '97:

It would be easier to upgrade than the Mk I, then again, I don't see any upgrades forthcoming.
