Im lost in the mix. I needed to know if independence can record audio.

BUT MY MAIN QUESTION IS??????
As far as sampling "the software way" which of these is the deepest as in effects and manipulation of the sample...

I like Independence b/c its got a nice sized library at 18GB...also the interface looks good.

Kontakt has a rep...and i saw the video of it...its pretty hot...especially wit the 2.1 upgrade...and the sounds u can get for it are pretty hot as well.

Emulator X2 can record audio forshure...so its a "TRUE" :o software sampler. And the filters and its Synth Swipe feature could save some cash as well..probably pay for itself.

Turnoffs of each...Emulator has a considerably smaller library than the other two...i have proteus x le and its sounds are so-so...

Kontakt is know to eat up cpu...ive got a Amd Athlon Xp3400 or 3800 64bit...and im upgrading my ram to 1gb...but even running FL6 real guitar, hypersonic2, and some other softsynths my cpu coughs sometimes.

Independence is said to have alot of bugs as of right now...but is it worth it to get it and let the updates work them out?
god is good...all the time

I use Emulator X (v1.52) and it does use a lot of CPU with heavy effects and modulation. I've heard that X2 is somewhat more efficient, but not much. I can't speak for Kontakt, but EX has an immensely flexible mod matrix - somebody figured out how to do granular synthesis with it, even though the program wasn't designed for it. I've done a one-way crossfade on sustain pedal release, that doesn't reverse when you press the pedal again (of course, this is probably trivial with Kontakt Scripting...).

I am entirely unfamiliar with Independence.
