So I'm playing a note on my USB keyboard and messing around with sliders and knobs on Toxic III when suddenly my screen goes black. Then my screen returns with Tracktion but there's this high pitched beeping and chiming sound - doesn't sound like the preset I was working with - that I hear at low volume. After a second or 2 Toxic III reappears. Nothing seems to be lost and my patch still sounds the way I had before the blackout. This happened about 3 times to me the other night. Haven't used Toxic III (or Tracktion) since. My CPU load was about 40% (and I had loaded only T3 and Wusikstation I, one track each).

Just wondering if anyone else came across this weirdness while playing around with Toxic III and if Toxic III or Tracktion could be the cause. :?

Or my ignorance of how to create patches... :help:

this happens to me when:

i remote desktop into my DAW from my notebook, and close the notebook lid (standby mode) without first properly logging off from the remote desktop session.

if i do not reboot my DAW, every now and then, seemingly randomly I am logged off, as the notebook re-establishes itself or something on the network, and my DAW detects the user as being logged in. when this happens, my screen goes black, my monitor syncs out and then back in as if power was cycled, and i am dropped back at the login screen, apparently logged out. i am sure this is a RDC bug in XP, and it's quite annoying because my RDC session is run at 1024x768 and my native DAW res is 1280x1024, so on top of being logged out and having to log back in, after doing so, my windows are all resized to 1024x768 and i have to click maximize and then restore 2 times before they detect the new full screen resolution of the LOCAL login :)

however, it sounds like what is happening to you is related to power management, or hardware. i'd be checking that PSU and make sure that it's up to snuff. what do you have plugged into the box, and are you using a power conditioner like a furman, or a battery backup like a APC, or anything like?

it's very possible that if you use USB audio and you have the audio device connected via usb hub that is not self-powered, that your power supply is sagging when the audio bandwidth (which translates into USB bandwidth, which is limited i might add) that your PSU can't keep up. not sure if this is your situation or not, but it's very possible.

another thing you can try is to go into device manager (assuming you are on windows) and disable power management sleep mode optimizations on your usb 'host' controllers and all the devices plugged in. this happened to me before, a USB midi hub was falling 'asleep' because it was being detected as inactive, and when that happened, the device powered down and caused ALL kinds of hell with cubase because it suddenly had 1 less device in the I/O chain and everything went to shit.

to really diagnose this though we need more information. i've thrown out a bunch of ideas and possibilities but there are still more, however no more effort into your problem without some back from you to explain your rig and all.

good luck.

I will try to check it all on my systems... but seems it's connected to your HD. Thanks! I will check it. Let me know if there will be something new about it.

it's a bug, but I can't help here as Toxic2 is not currently available and no updates planned. Use ToxicIII.... ;-)

Unfortunately I won't be able to recreate this blackout issue until the weekend because I have a ton of work related stuff to attend too tonight and tomorrow. I do remember trying different latency settings in my ASIO configuration panel. I think my PSU is 350W. Here are my specs:

WindowsXP Home SP1
Tracktion 2.1.0.11
M-Audio Keystation 49e (USB powered)
Dell Dimension 8100 (5 yrs old)
P4 1.4Mhz
512 Rambus Ram
Pioneer A-05 DVD
zip internal
2 internal ATA drives
evga 5600XT AGP video (no fan :D)
SBlive! Value card
ATI TV Tuner card (temporarily taking the slot from my Delta 44 because my computer is to slow to do squat)
Firewire PCI card
USB 2.0 PCI Card w/2 ports
