i've just bought liveslice ( great vst ) but i have got an annoying probs on it
on my system : Live 5.2, centrino 1.5, 512MO ram, m-audio quattro, when i call the UI to make some change, i have click&glith, it disapears when i set the latency of the soundcard higher ( but i can't play keyboard anymore, latency>50ms )or when i close the UI
it's the first vst who make this on my system
is there a way to give less priority to the UI>Sound processing ?
thanx
HK
mmmh Liveslice graphic interface -> too much cpu ?

I'm aware of this issue - it only happens on some systems, and is related to differences in graphics card drivers.
In relation to programming the osx version I'll make some radical changes to the core of the gui, that is very likely to solve those problems.
It's likely though, that ableton live has an option to lower the priority of the gui thread. Anyone know about this?

ok, in fact, i change the parameter of my graphic card ( a safe mode alike ) and it works without increase the latency
thanx for the answer

@ohm-
I just checked in Live 5.2 and there's nothing in the user preferences that appears to be an option to lower priority...(CS-80V is one that causes my system fits...)
@HumanKoala-
I remember recently there being another issue like this and just by changing the display properties from 24bit to 16bit, the problem went away...I think it was that the GUI didn't even show up or something...it wasn't a LiveSlice issue...
at any rate you may want to try changing your display settings to see if there's a difference there...
...OR...
(here's the part where you should wait for a second opinion...) there's a chance that you could fix it by changing your settings in windows XP...
[right click "my computer">properties>advanced>performance>settings]
first, under visual effects, choose "adjust for best performance" option, then go to the 'advanced' tab and you'll see 'processor scheduling' there is a choice to prioritize either programs, or background services...it's been a long time since I've dicker'd around with this stuff so my advice should be considered shaky at best, but I think I remember advice that "background services" as defined by Microsoft are the stuff that are important to DAW and so they should be chosen to be prioritized under this 'processor scheduling' adjustment...
changing this might help...I don't know. I toggled/tested both settings on my music machine before posting this. Doesn't seem to make a *noticeable* difference on my system, but I do keep it set to "background services" FWIW...

I just spent a couple of hours optimizing the event displays. The problem was related to the resizing of waveforms neccesery to display the loops in different zoom levels. On some systems this used large amounts of CPU. The optimization uses a bit more RAM while minimizing the number of resizing operations.
There's still room for more optimization (well, basically there's always room for more optimization) but I'm hoping this will be enough to ensure glitch free performance on all systems.
