AdmiralQuality wrote: advaya.... "You Never Trust Me". OH SO Beatlesque!!! (Have I made that comment to you before? I think I did!!!) Wow... you're a force to be reckoned with! Love it! That's songwriting! I know the production could be better, but hey, the songwriting SHINES THROUGH. Very George Harrison. Great solo. Did you say "with your lonley mom"? ?" Dude, if you wanna make a band I'm IN. We're only 3/4 of a a very wide country apart!

For what it's worth, that wasn't advaya, that was my song. Like you, it's the first bit of content I posted here. And yes, "with your lonely mom". :D:D:D

I'm a drummer in a hard rock band (a power trio -- so very un-KVR), but outside the band, I mostly work on guitar, singing, writing, etc.

I've been watching your development efforts. It all looks very promising. And yes, I'd like to collaborate on something in the future.

Thanks for the compliments!

Heh... yeah... there's no way I could have made something like that my first time around!

My track was the 'I Electronica' piece... Back then, who knew the whole putting-an-i-infront-of-product would become such a trend? (thanks Mr. Jobs...)

I shoulda held on to the name for a few more years!

Post

Well... Seeing as how this month's compo has gone all Pete Tong, I thought it'd be fun to listen and comment on the tracks in this thread instead...

My thoughts:

-----------
CAMSR: heh... who says trance needs any formal music training! First tracks always seem to suffer from overuse of reverb huh? Sounds like this was recorded in an empty dance-hall.

-----------
RUNAGATE: whoa! That's pretty much exactly what I was expecting to hear. Pretty twisted (but in a good way). Love the wildly dissonant lycks and strange drones.

-----------
.JON: I've already mentioned my appreciation of this track. Definitely a protracker piece. More more!

edit: Ooooohhh, I got my wish for more! Thermostate = all-things-cool-about-hex-sequencers. Love the hard-panned samples!

-----------
EMDOT: I would have liked to hear that. :-)

-----------
LADY J: 'Old Song Clip' is pretty cool. Though I'm not convinced this is your first effort.

-----------
DEAF DUNDERKWAC: Pretty good piece of 'all-computer in one sitting' music. The tone on the lead guitar is so reminiscent of Satriani's Surfing with the Alien. Nice one!

-----------
CLUELESS: Nice! Reminds me a lot of the Dandy Warhols... well... the instrumentation does anyway! Pretty good for an early effort.

-----------
GEEKBOY: Love the lyrics mate! This is your first???

-----------
ADVAYA: Such mad-sequenzing-skillz you demonstrate! iElectronica was so well-before-its-time! OK... moving along now...

-----------
ARGURU: Asside from the low-quality production, this is highly entertaining. The lo-fi sound has a strange appeal though.

-----------
BONTEBURG: Another nice early-effort track. But it really does sound like you've had a fair amount of experience before this one.

-----------
SICKLE: Brings me back to my I-hate-the-world-and-everyone-in-it days. Pretty good for a first effort. Drumming is really tight.

-----------
LICASTO2: Another nice first effort. Again, sounds like you had a fair amount of previous experience.

-----------
ILDON: Yep... this sounds ildonesque! You've come a long way.

-----------
ADMIRALQUALITY: Very cool for a 4track recording. This is another one where it sounds exactly like what I was expecting. Nice. Embodies all-things-80s!

-----------
LOVELESS: Nice work. Vocals sound like a cross between Dave Gahan and Alice Cooper! I'd have liked to hear something much earlier though. This sounds almost too good for this thread.

-----------
MYSTAHR: Nice for a first effort as well. I'd have preferred to hear the unmastered version though. After all, the appeal of this thread comes from hearing how the artist has improved since their humble beginnings.

Now that was just plain fun! :)

This is one of my first tunes. Not "the" first, but ah well. Filelodge isn't working, so yousendit is gonna have to do for now.

It's actually more like my third or fourth tune.
Ohh, I remember this, yes. But this was from when you started making music.. :P I remember those old tunes you used to send me way before this, Ildon. 8)

This song's still very spacey, and nice work. :D
Before this, I made two other real songs, Orion Federation and Shadow of the Predator, which you can find here and here.

The rest were short 30 second pieces that you wouldn't consider songs.

Orion Federation was something where I did all the loops, and a friend of mine put it together in ProTools. Shadow of the Predator was made 100% in Fruity. :D

  GOOD STUFF!

Remember when after making something like this, thought's like, 'damn... I hope nobody steals this when I post it' would come into your head?

OK... I cannot say for sure that's what you were thinking. But I had so many tracks that sounded just like this, and everytime I finished one, I thought it was the coolest thing ever made... and then I'd also wonder how to go about copywriting it.

Ahhh... the good ol days.

Cheers.

Post

Me too!

I remember, shortly after I started "working" on some Final Fantasy fangame for some guy, I began making tunes for a bunch of random people and friends, and they'd put them up on their websites and stuff... hahaha... I would think, "I HOPE NO ONE STEALS THIS." :/

I listen to them now and wonder what my mother put in my dinner...

Oh shit, no, guys, Anomaly Battle was like, my 8th tune. After Orion Federation and Shadow of the Predator I made Into the Frey (orchestral... :/), Bleeding Axe (!!), Field Battle, some other song, and then I made Princess.

Orion Federation was the song where I decided to make my music seriously. I didn't use a keyboard up until Anomaly Battle, I think. I wish Coops were online, 'cause he'd remember better than I would.

But either way, these tunes of mine are OLD (for me, anyway.)

Edit: Actually, I dunno if that's how it really went. Either way, though, Orion Federation and Shadow of the Predator were my first real songs. Before that I did some crappy 30 second dance piece, did "remixes" of other songs, and I used FL's MIDIs to make stuff. After those two, I think that's when I got the Sonfon36 soundfont and used a bunch of its samples to make a bunch of horrible tunes, then got my Roland, made one or two or three songs with it, then made Anomaly Battle.

I think.

Now this has gotten me thinking. I'll ask Coops when he gets back from Jindy. :D

Edit 2: NO! I remember my Roland wasn't working from like, July to October or November, and in that time I made a bunch of other tunes in Fruity. So Anomaly Battle is pretty far down the line (probably 10th or 11th tune.) Sorry about that. It was my first or second tune I made on my Roland, though. I don't remember if I made it before or after that orchestral song I don't have anymore.

So it would go, I think...

Orion Federation
Shadow of the Predator
Into the Frey
Bleeding Axe
Field Battle
2-3 random songs no one remembers
Princess
Anomaly Battle or the other song
The other song or Anomaly Battle

And in between them I did a few small jingles I remember being really proud of and thinking, "I'm like Masashi Hamauzu and Nobuo Uematsu now! :D"

Anyway... carry on. Ahlyn's comment just got me thinking.

here's mine I think this was back when I was in 8th grade. So what's that...about about six years ago. I don't remember if I was just an idiot and didn't know how to pronounce words I was singing or that I mispronounced on purpose to make them rhyme. I think it was a William Blake poem.

http://www.bigwussy.net/music_samples/L ... 20Bell.mp3

this was actually before I even started naming my songs by the order of their creation. I'm up to 295. Though I've stopped being so prolific, before I would be cranking songs out left and right. The actual number of real songs is probably closer to 220. Now I'm down to about one or two a month.

edit: I'm an idiot, this was three years ago. That was when I began making music on computers.

Hit "download" instead of "play song" otherwise you'll load the wma version which sounds absolutely awful.
This song is only about 2 years old. You could say I got a late start to actually writing music. Doing what I can to make up for lost time, though.

Classic!

Love the atmospheric birdy-tweet thing at around the 2:00 mark!

just got to work

thanks advaya. I like my old songs a lot more than my new stuff. Even though the production sucks the ideas are so much better. The bird sound is the African grey parrot we have. I used to record in the same room and he would start making noises when ever I sang.

Not to double post, but I've dug back a bit. I recently redid the drums on this but the original tracks are from an old 4 track recording. A few tempo slips, but it worked out okay.

Yeah, I still love Jesus and Mary Chain.

I love hearing these old recordings from everyone. This turned out to be a great thread.

can't listen here at work, but I'll do some reviews when I get home.
