To avoid (surround module limited, no multichannel plugins, no multichannel editing) : Sonar, Logic Pro...

Good luck !
I'm not sure I understand this (No mutichannel plugins, limited surround module in SONAR). Care to elaborate?

Brandon (didn't realize there was a Cakewalk forum here I'll have to go poke around in the forums I don't ever look at again)...

Acousmod is French and I cannot vouch for his English skills (they may be great for all I know) but I do know he may not be back anytime soon to elaborate.

As I recall you can email him on their site.

They've got a ferocious set of plug-ins over there, so although I'm not really sure what they have to do with this discussion I do recommend checking them out. A lot of them are implemented to enhance specific hosts' multichannel audio oversights.

Also, I'd like to add to the list Usine for live surround wonders. You don't even need to have a surround set-up as long as you have a pile of guitar amps or club monitors you can route things around very nicely with Usine.

For the record, though I don't own Sonar and couldn't comprehend it in the tiny amount of time I've personally gotten to interact with other people's Sonar set-ups, I was under the impression that it had great surround capabilities.

I'm excited for more people to comment here.

Hi runagate, thanks for the detailed response. Actually no there is no Cakewalk forum here...I just wander over here from time to time. :) Acousmod's plugins do look like some nice multichannel problem solvers...I'll have to check some of them out. Yeah the reason I asked for clarification is we have worked very hard to have complete surround support in SONAR and I was truly curious what improvements he felt we could make to the Surround Module. SONAR does have a surround reverb (Lexicon Panthoen Surround) and a multichannel surround compressor (as well as Surround Bridge), so I was also curious by what was meant by "no multichannel plugins". It was a serious inquiry, so I hope it didn't come off as sounding like a challenge or something.

well i am sure he will answer as soon as he see this post 8) runagate when you say th"ey ve got a ferocious set of plug-ins over there
i think i might be wrong that he is working alone
so although I'm not really sure what they have to do with this discussion I do recommend checking them out. A lot of them are implemented to enhance specific hosts' multichannel audio oversights.
as his plugin requires multichanel effect busses Brandon should understand what was missing regarding to these plugins .
Because acousmod made his tests on different apps with his own plugs

Ahh, I didn't realize the discussion was related to "what was missing regarding to these plugins" - I was speaking purely about authoring surround in SONAR with its built-in capabilities, which is what I thought the original post was about. I guess I was mistaken.

no the discussion was not about these plugins but simply what host have the best 5.1 or higher capabilities and from what i have read sonar have limited possiblities but i had never tested sonar in depth to comment this assertion
so let's wait untill he speaks about this

Vonbrucken,

Sure I understand. Of course you want an app that gives you lots of creative freedom when working in surround with good surround upport and capabilities. As is the mantra, tryout a handful of good candidates and see what works best for you. Since you said you haven't tried it yet, here is a link to the demo of SONAR5
http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/kb2005298.asp (keep in mind the demo has some limitations and/or missing features).

Check out the Surround Bridge feature. In the right application it's a pretty cool tool.

Best of luck and I'm sure answers to any questions you may have are right around the corner.
