Ok i have to redraw my complains about the plugin manager system not saving your setup

I did upgrade from Sonar Homestudio 4 to Sonar 5.2 Studio edition, and the plugin manager is intergrated there and remember all my setting when i install a new vst

So it seems like things are more intergrated in the bigger versions of Sonar

So now i am a official happy camper, and i will also upgrade to Sonar 6 when it comes out.

i haven't used sonar seriously since version 4. does a vsti still take up two tracks... one for the midi and one for its audio? if that was worked out, i'd probably switch back and try version 6.

It still creates 2 tracks for vsti, but you can remove them from the sequencer so you only see the midi tracks.

Wow, for me, two tracks per vsti is actually much preferable to single track vstis.

When using a single out vsti it can be annoying, but its amazingly intuitive when working with multi-out vstis.

It still creates 2 tracks for vsti, but you can remove them from the sequencer so you only see the midi tracks.

but then can you still get easy access to the volume of the track and everything? and any effects you have on the audio part track?

Yep

My setup consist of midi tracks in the sequencer track and only the audio parts in the Mixer wich makes it much more easier than having to dig thru audio and midi the only audio i have there is vocals or drumloops.

ah-ha, that's something i never considered... midi in the sequencer, audio the mixer. never used the mixer much.

Ok

When you are in the sequencer view hit the M key and you get straight into the Tack manager view, and untick all the vst audio's, and when you open the mixer hit M and untick all the vst Midi channels

I was also very unhappy at first, and everything felt like a mess until i discovered this option

Also, there's a section called "Toggle" in that dialog where you can select all the Audio/MIDI tracks at once to make it even faster, especially with large projects.

Jayzuz. I'm not sure what's worse-- a longer-than-expected delay between updates in a program or all this constant stream of updates that comes from the likes of Ableton and Cakewalk. Is it a paid upgrade?

Greg: Yep, it's gonna be a paid upgrade.

It'll have to be something very enticing though. I notice Cakewalk are already touting a "Upgrade to Sonar 5 now and get Sonar 6 FREE" promotion, which is kinda cool. But there's still no info on what's actually in there.

indeed!

But Cakewalk seem to always include a must-have plugin with the upgrade that previously retailed at more than the actual cost of the upgrade. Which might be an incentive.

They do need to pull a rabbit out of the hat though so far as I am concerned - Sonar 5 is already a fantastic and mature sequencer, and in October my money is going to Ableton (Live 6 upgrade, but NOT the Sampler).
