Be prepared for this little "Instrument" to record your external Hardware (or VST's via a virtual MIDI cable) fully automatic into instant playable Instruments!. It records note by note from any Audio Input, correctly applies crossfade or forward/backward-looping and then the final result can be saved as a Soundfont!

I'm currently in the phase of eliminating some little glitches here and there. Hopefully next week i can present you a first Demo of it!

Cheerio! :D

Nice.....Edit...just looked better at the gui answered my question

I did a first rough preview-video here - there you can see the BETA of samplematic in action!

EDIT: @elv: What question was it? :)

Looks like a nice tool.. But this isn't the first one.

If you want to 'oneup' all the other tools - at least for me the coolest feature to add would be vst chaining. So you can chain vst effects after your hardware before recording.

And sfz export is a must!

Post

About the more export format than sf2.

@Jeremy_NSL: you can already do that when using a host (via it's audio input) ;) And why's SFZ a must? :) You can easily convert SF2 into anything!

And i dont know so much other Apps that do this? (Besides Chainer (no looping) and Samplerobot(haven't checked it yet, demo download too fiddly)...

Ok, yes you can do that with a host - you mean recording one long wav and splitting afterward? But then you lose the automatic mapping, note splitting etc. of programs like this.

Other programs that do this: EXSC, Samplit, Samplerobot, OSR, Synthcatcher, VST dumper, something by Rubber Chicken I think. Some others I can't remember. Chainer doesn't do it - it only samples vsts not hardware. Currently I use EXSC for hardware sampling.

Post

No i meant setting it up the way you want in a Host (rout out of ext. synth into audio in, add fx) - there you go! :)

So much! :o Which of these do automatic SF2 creation and automatic looping?

EDIT: How do you sample external Hardware in EXSC?

I think Redmatica do Autosampler as well, which looks good. I'd like a reasonably priced Mac ap for this - I don't use it more than once in a while, so I don't really want to drop £100+ on something, especially when it doesn't take long to set up a little template in a DAW to automatically get all the note samples you need.

Autolooping is my really killer feature - pretty much everything can be done relatively easily but the looping part is a pain...

The most important area of distinction you can make from the "other" auto-sampling gizmos is the price. Samplerobot is VERY expensive the last time i checked. Samplit is pretty cheap and you can get a free version from buying VSampler i believe.

Anyways, your project looks very interesting! Good luck with it.

Also, a slight idea : How about offering automation? I bet thats something no one has ever done yet. Consider this : Your program should be able to sort of, have like a sequencer only for midi CCs. It should be able to offer "layers". That is, one layer of CC07 to automate the cutoff while it is sampling, and another layer to automate pitch lfo frequency, etc., all while sampling a single note. Then, do different types of automation, and be able to layer them into ONE single program. Now, THAT would be a killer auto-sampling app. :)

Generally this isn't possible because the host requires an ASIO connection, as does the sampling program. You can't use both at once, unless you use Directsound on one - and in that case I haven't been able to sample over 16/44 quality.

Maybe its doable on cards with multi-client ASIO drivers?

I think most do automatic looping. I'm not really sure because I manually loop - never had good luck from autoloopers.
EDIT: How do you sample external Hardware in EXSC?
Under the 'Source' menu, you choose 'Hardware Converter'. Its really quite a nice addition to the program.

Yes, that was what i meant. DirectSound doesn't allow recording with more than 16 bits?
(But since SF2 (except the latest update) only supports 16 bit, that isn't a problem, i think)

I just found out that sometimes Samplit doesn't loop my sound AT ALL (?) What the ...
(Ok this cant happen with Samplematic, since it uses offset crossfade looping (or fb/bw))

Hmm, dont find that option (EXSC v3.04 here) :?

I'm on 3.0.8 but afaik its been in EXSC since before 3.04. Look again, the first option in the source pulldown menu is 'vsti converter' and the second is 'hardware converter'. After that is Soundfont. If its really not there I'd contact support.

mhh, no it isn't there, but that doesn't bother me much, since i have an app at hand that does exactly this ;)

please make this freeware?

I'd love an app like this
