James...what about price points. Is it going to cost an arm or a leg like VSL or is it going to be more realistically priced for us budget studio guys?

To be completely honest, to my taste, this doesn't sound any better then much of the free stuff that is out there. It doesn't have that piano feel, although in fairness, no sampled piano REALLY captures that. But to me, this doesn't even come close. Yes, it could fool some people, but so can free soundfonts.

I've played the piano for 17 years, not as much as some, but more then many. And I do ALOT of playing. I don't think this will be worth a very large price tag.

Just my humble opinion, of course.

No idea. It had not even occurred to me that it could be in the $500 range, which won't happen for me :-(

At $100 I'd think about it though. At $60 there'd be no question. $500 is a down payment on a grand piano...

Oh god! Has this thing still not been released yet? I know I should ignore it but I find threads about vapourwear a bit irritating. It's like chatting up someone you fancy at a party and they spend all night flirting with you without offering a f**k.

Are you representing the point of view of a listener, or a player?

My comments have little to do with the sound of the finished output, and everything to do with the fact that I can close my eyes and believe my head
is above the bridge of a piano. This is beneficial to my creative process.

All this talk about the high price tag is bovine feces, since no price has been set or even hinted at, for this product that may or may not even be placed on the market.

The nub of the issue.

All this debate over such an ethereal piano.

Post

Yeah. But I'm sure it WILL be placed on the market. Otherwise, why would they put up these tantalising demos? If they are indeed lying, they ought to be kicked out of KvR forever and I really mean that. Noone has the right to put up deceitful things and get people all excited and the hammer never falls. That is just wrong and should be answered with a serious kickban - a permanent one at that.

FYI, the folks working on the product didn't post this thread. Someone who is a beta tester did.

They've put a lot of work into it, and I'd be very surprised if it didn't go to market. But you never know, lots of things can happen.

its from 4front isnt it?, they've been around a while and have pretty good creds

I think that every time I listen to a piano, it's as a player. Probably because I'm the one who wants to play it, and the sound has to feel right to me. So at times it's hard for me to view it from the other side. However, I don't totally think it's as believable as some samples that are out there.

The truth is though, that most normal listeners, or non-musicians, will probably not be able to tell the difference.

Yes, of course. But I'm referring strictly to the impression the instrument gives *while playing it*.

Lots of pianos sound convincing, but this to me is something more than just 'sounding' convincing. This is more like 'needing to open my eyes to be sure I'm not actually playing a real piano.'

To me that's significant.

Um, the developer isn't doing anything deceitful. He *did* invite you to join the beta test. There was a barrier to entry for that -- you have to be a serious pianist, with a good controller and a monitoring environment good enough to evaluate something like this.

It's certainly unreasonable to be suggesting a "kickban".

I don't actually think we're supposed to be discussing it anyway, and I don't want to contribute to this, so I'm off the subject.

So, where is it?
Release date?
more demos?

I'm still interested. I like how it sounds a lot.
