I'm not sure I understand this (No mutichannel plugins, limited surround module in SONAR). Care to elaborate?
Hi Brandon,

I will try to explain this certainly too short sentence (the explainations are on the site but in French).
I have absolutly nothing against Sonar, but there is some things that seems do be not possible with the current implementation of its surround module because it is exclusively based on polar coordinates.
For example to do a Front / Rear stereo "panning" (the left input goes FL to SL while the right input goes from FR to SR).
So, compared to other surround modules in hosts like Samplitude that have no limit for movements, I will personnaly not advise Sonar for someone who is searching for "the bests hosts" for surround.

About the true multichannel plugins, Sonar, like a lot of other excellent multitrack hosts (Logic, Samplitude...) is not able to insert and use plugins that have more than 2 inputs / outputs on the track busses, no ?
I would be very pleased to be wrong onh this point, and any info that you have on this will be very appreciated.
The tests that I have made some months ago with my plugs and others (TonyB, Toby Bear's DMO Bag...) and what is written in the Sonar's manual have shown that it could not process more than the two first channels of a plugin, something that is very well supported in Cubase SX for example.
Ahh, I didn't realize the discussion was related to "what was missing regarding to these plugins" - I was speaking purely about authoring surround in SONAR with its built-in capabilities, which is what I thought the original post was about. I guess I was mistaken.
no the discussion was not about these plugins but simply what host have the best 5.1 or higher capabilities
possibilities( built in or not )
Exactly :)
For example, Podium have no surround object but is totally open for multichannel (busses and files). It is also an example, of course.
Check out the Surround Bridge feature. In the right application it's a pretty cool tool.
Sure, and I whish that other hosts would be inspired by it !
It is very nice to be able to use multi-mono and multi-stereo plugins easily.

So, to end this pseudo "Acousmodules / Sonar debate", I consider ON PRINCIPLE that the hosts that can do whatever you want, including open multichannel processing and multichannel files, a little better than the ones which don't...
After, it is a matter of taste and kind of music.

Best regards,
Jean-Marc
