I know that my company paid about $4300 for my HP xw8200 with dual xeon 3.2ghz,160 gb scsi, 4 gb ram and quadro pro fx1400 video. I would say that it cost about what an apple with similar specs would cost, tho the hardware in this is slightly better than what apple gives you.

If you take away the 'dumb-arses' bit, his replies are very palatable. :D
*sigh* right most of the time. Meaning that he could be wrong "sometimes". :)

Use PC or Mac...use whatever works for you and one that you want to put money toward. I personally thinks the new Mac Pro are powerful and I do agree to some degree that apple's "upgrades"/"customization" are a little over-priced. Don't forget though...OSX is sill (in my opinion) far more stable than Win XP.

Yeah, I could, if I read the banner ads and ran off to report them as gospel or if I read some idiot's blog and didn't bother to check things out for myself. I could easily be wrong, which is precisely why I do take the time to check it out first.

Hey BONES, I could be as well from time to time. So...we're even! :)

Unless, of course, I wasn't having a go at Apple but at the dipshit who got excited over something that has, in one form or another, been around for a year or more.
Ah, I see what you're about. I think there was some speculation on arstechnica that the mac tower lineup would include some duals and some quads, though, so the excitement was in the resolution of the speculation. i.e. not that it was exciting that the lineup included quads (because, as you note, Apple's been offering quads for a while), but that the lineup was all-quad, which is somewhat unusual.

Can't we all just get along, you fat c*nt?

Don't do it my way.

I see no reason why we should, we all learn much more this way.

nah i think we just READ more.

Right, you never learn by reading....... :hihi:

My opinion on the mac pro.... nice, but not the G5 killers that everybody was expecting IMO....
A quad 3Ghz being 1.8x at best faster than a quad 2.5 isn't that much of a jump..
Nothing to sneeze at, but seeing as how I'm using NI Komplete, and Waldorf Collection, I'm glad I have the G5

Really? I don't need more than about a single 2GHz CPU to do anything I need to, music-wise.

I'm still on a 1ghz G4. I haven't run out of power for what i do yet. The mac pro does look tempting but when i think about it i don't really need more than what i have now for the time being.
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I'm glad for you. I'm also doing a great job on my 1,67 G4 but I couldn't say I wouldn't like to have a dual 2 or 3 GHz.
A quad?...
Man, I have to see it to understand what it can do.

Can i listen to music? out of curiousity only.

Oh, I don't think you understood? Native Instruments haven't put out Universal Binary versions of their line yet, so 80% of the soft instruments I run, don;t run on these machines yet.
What I was saying is the speed bump isn't that much more than the G5 line, and I'm glad the machine I have runs all my software, not that I need at least 16Ghz to make a decent song!
I had a G4 400 that for some reason held up very well with sot synths etc. I seriously don't think I'll be getting a new machine for at least 2 1/2 years.... dual 2.5 is more than enough power IMO. The only downfall to the machine is the PCI-X slots.

ahhh yeah! failed technology! Good thing I didn't pay for that privilege... A friend owed me a favor, and threw it at me.

Why do we need a quad core, it's difficult enough to write software that can use all the power of a dual core (and balances out the cpu use to the two cores)?
