help..that's über cheesy.

cute vox, but no thanks

*side note - the lead melody is very sloppy, why?

otherwise, kinda tight sound but way too loose in programing.

If tony tony chopper makes me a 48xOsc I will personally drive to belgium and give him a blowjob.

The Lead melody was played in live (But is now Quantisized) :D
I have also tweaked the lead sound a little more so it is more smooth (Will upload a new one when the song is finnished)

Hey! Is trance going back into style again?

WTHeck, did it really ever go out of style? :?

To stand in defence of 'trance', a lot of amazing music stems from it. Lectric cargo's active sensing and mikerobenics replika are amazing, and that's to name but 2 tracks/artists, there are 100's if not 1000's more.

The vast majority of trance 'haters' have probably never heard real trance inasmuch as the vast majority of people who define (and judge) 'punk' through the sex pistols and the clash have probably never heard true punk.

If tony tony chopper makes me a 48xOsc
Sytrus (which can do EVERYTHING a 3xosc does) can output 9*2*6=108 osc per voice (for 6% CPU usage on my AMD 3500, or more depending on how diff shapes fit in the cache)

Post

Can Sytrus do stuff like PWM, hard sync and ring mod ? (no sarcasm intended, I really don't know)

-PWM of course, like most synths (no need to be designed for)

-RM yes, better than any synth since it has a full matrix for that. Not very useful, though.

-hard sync, no. You can fake something similar through FM, though (using a pulse as modulator). But hard sync is kinda crap as it requires heavy oversampling to antialias. If you want free shapes that is.

Post

mmh I'm experimenting with it, and FM appears to be a nice alternative to hard-sync.

Results are obviously not the same, but similar. FM (which is actually phase modulation) with a square wave modulator will cut the wave at arbitrary points, depending on the speed of the modulator and the amount of modulation.

But what's interesting is that you can smooth up the modulator (a smoothed square wave) to get smoother results requiring less oversampling.

I don't like hard-sync soundwise so I won't make presets using that trick but there may be something to investigate.

Post

"hard sync is kinda crap as it requires heavy oversampling to antialias"
that shouldnt be true, even for arbitrary waveshapes.

wtf is ment by "48xOsc" though? :P

i find after 32 voices/oscillators, you really cant tell much difference anymore. the perception of complexity vs. numbre of voices seems to be log to that point, but then really flattens off. i can barely tell the difference between 32 voices and 256 voices with detuned saws, for example.

through hard sync, you restart the oscillator at arbitrary points. What other antialiasing method does handle this? I've only heard of minblep to handle this (and I'm not even sure), but it's limited.

Post

hmm, I know what you mean about hard sync but I think it is extremely useful for creating big sounds. The quality of sync on Zebra2 is absolutely awesome
