(my error sooner was to open EnergyXT vsti version in Live, instead of EnergXT effect version... so tricky.

Ok : tried in Ext : it works fine (at least in Reaper)!

Yes.
The trick is that in Live, it is recognized as an audio plugin, not midi, so the track where i put it will want to send out audio only, and not midi.
Would synthmaker allow, when exporting to VST, to choose between "instrument / audio effect / midi effect" ?

Yes, it does, but some midi plugins are recognized as audio effects, and can only be put after a vsti (where midi plugins should be inserted before the instrument), and makes the track output audio data, and not midi data (you then will have to route the midi data from that track to another midi track...).Drenholm wrote:Yeah, I don't know if Live yet supports VST MIDI plugins, does it?
I am wondering what makes Live say that "this plugin is midi, this one is audio" (basically, it hsould be : if it takes audio, and outputs audio, then it is audio)? It should be some internal plugin's component... ? It would be useful to know which one, in order to give the plugin a better format signature.

afaik live does not handle midi-plugins when they are vst, only the native live-midi-plugs can be inserted before an instrument. vst, especially when made in SE or SM, do have an audio-out in most cases and therefore are handled as an audio-plug.sinkmusic wrote:Yes, it does, but some midi plugins are recognized as audio effects...Drenholm wrote:Yeah, I don't know if Live yet supports VST MIDI plugins, does it?
when you want to use a midi-only-vst-plug in live, you have to wrap it inside eXT.

Hey, I tried again, and you're true.
How sad it doesn't work the way i need.
The worst thing is that once wrapped in Ext, i can't even make it work (in Live)

Hey, I tried again, and you're true. I guess i always mainly used Live's native plugin, or made some crazy routings in Ext i can't even remember.
How sad it doesn't work the way i need. It was so damn simple & efficient !

Maybe this helps (no garantee as I'm not a live user myself):
http://www.chordspace.com/Playa/Live5Install.htm
(it's for using Chordspace in Live, so there's a chance you'll get other Midi-VSTs running as well)

Thank you, PLastique.
I thought it could work (the "monitor in" trick
), but it still doesn't, and i think i guessed why : the midi coming out from track1 to feed track2 is taken before what Live thinks is an audio plugin (= MidiFilter).
I'm running Live 5,2. I hope Live6 will be more midi-friendly.
... and if anybody has a trick to tell me how to make it work using Live (with or without Ext), thank you !

Don't count on it. Live still has midi issues with ERA and Phrazor in the 6 beta, not to mention XT. Ableton is pretty good on passing the buck when there is plug in issues with Live.I'm running Live 5,2. I hope Live6 will be more midi-friendly

Whenever I use a midi plug in Live I should always wrap it in XT, so I can get audio/midi input output. AND mostly because it is way easier to make the crazy configuration I am thinking of in XT's main window.

Yes, but i haven't used XT a lot, and i can't make it work that way in Live.. I guess it its the difference Live does between midi and audio that makes a problem.
ARgh, this simple thing gives me headaches !
DId anybody achieved to make it work properly in Live (even wrapped in Ext)? I really don't think that the plugin is bad, I think it is a host's issue, but it sucks at it is my main one.
