Well, if you've found www.efiddler.com , you'll also have found the free downloadable samples he's offering - including a very nice collection of country fiddle loops. Nothing you could use in there?

I think that making a convincing fiddle part out of samples will take lot of intensive sequencing not matter what.I thought about that, but it would take a massive amount of looping and slicing to try and turn those loops into the melodies I've got in my head

Dont know how "original" it has to sound for you, but for this kind of sound I often used samples from my old Yamaha TX16W Library.
On the the disk "DBS 202 Strings 3 Viola & Violin"
you can find a kind of very scratchy Violin solo there.
A copy of this disk is to find on this website:
http://home.plex.nl/~mojoto/ftplist.htm
(you will have scroll down in the list)
These are old and quite short multisamples who cannot compare with actual sample library, but they have indeed some charakter.
Ah, yes you will have to convert them.
AFAIK the demo version of Awave Studio was able to convert this kind of files.

In case you would have access to this library, the solo Viola from Peter Siedlaczek 's Advanced Orchestra Library has also a nice sound for this.

efiddeler's fees are actually quite reasonable for what he's offering. Sometimes it's worth it to pay for the real thingjustjazz wrote:I thought about that, but it would take a massive amount of looping and slicing to try and turn those loops into the melodies I've got in my head. I don't think I've got the tools or skills for that.
