vibrato fx that kicks in with some delay?....

Like an envelope controlling the depth? Or even the wet/dry ratio? Here is what I want to do:
I draw a melodic line in a piano roll, which obviously contains longer and shorter notes. Now, I want vibrato (though I suppose this can apply to any effect) only on the last part of the longer notes. Let's say it must kick in after the note plays for say 3/8 or x milliseconds and until the end of the note. Obviously the effect must be retriggered with each note. Some modulation of parameters would be welcome too.
I suppose I could do it by assigning say some controller to the corresponding cc, except I suck at keyboard playing, even at turning knobs, so I'd rather have an fx doing it for me.
Does it exist? Does it even make sense?

Basically, you'd want that to happen inside the synth or sampler you're playing - not as an external effect. Since you want the effect triggered for every note working on that same note, an external effect doing so will only work properly for monophonic material.cimoc wrote:Like an envelope controlling the depth? Good news is that it is probably not that uncommon is synth to have delay on envelopes. Also, slow attack might also do the trick for you.

I respectfully disagree, spacefox.
I don't know what host you use, but I do this all the time by drawing animation linked to the appropriate wet/dry knob in FL all the time, and also link the vibrato frequency knob up so that the vibrato's speed is expressible, too.

I stand corrected. Of course you are right.runagate wrote:I respectfully disagree, spacefox.

I understood the request for something that does that auto-magically, while playing. But since cimoc is drawing his notes, automation is the suitable solution indeed.

It's the proper solution for those of us who can actually stand mousing-in 10,000 dinky little lines all over our songs. Which, notably, angers my crappy PC to no end.spacefox wrote:I stand corrected. Of course you are right.runagate wrote:I respectfully disagree, spacefox.

You are right, I do it by drawing in the piano roll. After doing this about two hours last night just for one track in Cubase SX, I thought, what the hell, it might already exist. Or someone might be able to build it (hint, hint). Even some midi fx....
Seriously, some synths indeed have that feature, and it is very welcome. The last one I remember is Obbo, which BTW sounded rather good to my untrained ears. I was trying "mousing-in 10,000 dinky little lines" as you very well put it with Manyguitar, though, and although the result was interesting, it was not quite convincing as a quitar, it was more like a synth with lots of pitch wheel movement (which is exactly what it is). I suppose I could fix it if I worked on it for another 3-4 hours, but by then my nerves couldn't stand it.
So basically I want to imitate the vibrato and slight variations in pitch caused by slight bending of strings in a guitar, but also the vibrato applied by the lis of a clarinet player, and so on, so I am not looking for a particular synth (unless we are talking about a sampler with that feature, if any of the major samplers has that feature, somebody please enlighten me?)

I think it would be important that the vibrato was synced to host tempo. Look at Ohmboys delay, or Kjaerhus GMO-1.
Maybe the freebie Kjaerhus phaser, flanger or chorus. At 100% wet they are vibratos of varying types. Some are syncable to hose tempo. You could automate the depth to wind in the vibrato when you need it.
Maybe you would find that you could ramp up the vibrato at the end of every 2nd bar or so - you could cut & past the automation nodes.
