looking for a vst-host for live-performance

hi,

i am looking for a vst-host for live-performance & i never did something live.
i make my songs with cubase sx3 & several vst-plugins.


now my idea is to use one laptop & a host with the following features:
- per song i make for example up to 4 stereo tracks (wav or mp3) for drums, prc, ... at home, which then are playbacked in the host during the performance
(if the tracks are in wav-format, i think the tracks couldn't be loaded completely into the memory & should be read direct from harddisk (???))
- i can adjust vst-fxe behind the audio tracks live (for example a filter)
- additional one or more vst-instruments & fxes are played live (i want to use among other things ni's kore)
- a higher structure in the host contains all my songs with perhaps different bpm & different adjustment of vsts & the songs are played in a sequence (= the complete performance)
- the host should be stable
- it would be great, if the host could record all live adjustments (midi, vst-automation) during the performance, so you can use them later at home or so
(this feature isn't necessary)

i think, that my imagination isn't extraordinary.
i don't want to use cubase, because it is to complex & i don't trust it.
the host i am looking for should match my idea & shouldn't be expensive. perhaps i try it only once.

is my imagination of a live-performance ok or are there any mistakes, i don't see?
is it ok to work with the mentioned subtracks or is it necessary to use only audio-parts with ghost-copies?
i think it is easier to make subtracks with cubase, which i then use live in a song, than working with a "complex" arrangement of created audio-parts per song.

i read here in kvr about energyXT, phrazor, ...
would they match? are there any experiences?

It is made for Live performance.

What you describe definitely sounds more up Live's alley than other hosts.

That said, you will not find a more powerful tool for live work than energyXT, but it is not really an audio looping tool. THAT said, energyXT does have a 'live mode' for its sequencer module but I've never used it so I dunno how it works.

Well, the live features in EXT aren't as detailed as in Live. But I do know that Jorgen is adding a whole new live system to XT2, and it's supposed to be pretty sweet, with some very "Live-like" stuff.

But we'll only know when it's released, besides what he's already said. Until then, nothing competes with Live(and still probably won't, as Live is TOTALLY geared towards that).

Got to agree with everyone else here ... Live will do everything you've mentioned, even recording your performance. The demo is fully functional, except no saving ... you should check it out

If EnergyXT or Phrazor do the job for you, they are both free of restrictive copy protection schemes, unlike Ableton Live.
