I imagine that you could what you describe from any host. If you don't trust Cubase then you may find EnergyXT to be less taxing on your PC. But I certainly don't see a singel reason to spend up big on Live for your relatively straightforward idea, assuming you will have the song arrangement pre-set and don't want to improvise.

The unique feature about Live is its uninterrupted audio engine. You can add synths, effects, clips, edit midi clips, record, etc etc, all while the audio is playing. This is the biggest thing which sets Live apart from other hosts for live performance.

Exactly. And that is why Live tends to be used on stage by a whole pile of the worlds top performers, from jazz gods such as George Benson and John Scofield, through to beatboxers like Kid Beyond. You can read their own comments about why they choose Live for stage use here:pdxindy wrote:The unique feature about Live is its uninterrupted audio engine. what do you mean with "less taxing"? is EnergyXT better than cubase & would be ok? or is it like cubase?

Whaa? What host can't you do that with? Mind you, what sort of idiot gets on stage without everything worked out and rehearsed to death. In fact, the more I think about the more ridiculous your comment is and, by association, the more ridiculous you seem.pdxindy wrote:The unique feature about Live is its uninterrupted audio engine. Yes, I'm sure they have all kinds of reasons. Did anyone bother to ask them what other hosts they had so much as heard of? Those guys wouldn't have a f**king clue about what's out there or why one is better or worse than another. Dipshits!headquest wrote:Exactly. BONES, do you think that you personally drive down the sales of Orion?
Do you actually know who John Scofield is? I'm just curious; I'm aware of the fact that you hate everyone that's not you.

I heard Reaper is quite good.. the GUI alone will have the audience enthralled.. and not to mention the advanced quantization and saving options

thank you for all your answers.
live is definitely too expensive - particularly with regard to my current live-trial-state.
currently for me it seems to be to shoot with cannons on sparrows.
what i read about live, it is surely the best or one of best, but i need no live dearranging of stuff, but only one switch of bpm & vst-loading/setting at the beginning of every song. within a song i only want to use the "live"-features (=param-adjustments & note-playing) of the vst-fxe/instruments.
i think my wishes at this time are very simple - perhaps apart from the recording of the live vst- automation.
with a heavy heart i could temporary renounce this feature.
a new aspect (mentioned by EnzymeX) is, that it would be nice, if the host-software can be run with 3 copies ( home-pc, laptop & fallback-laptop).
& the host should be a stand-alone software. i don't want a host for the host. phrazor-stand-alone will come soon, i read.
some of you mentioned energyXt & phrazor. the price would be ok.
are there any experiences, how much they match my wishes (live-usage & the mentioned features)?
are there any experiences with cubase sx3 for live-using?
i own sx3, but i think it is "too large & complex" for live-using. & i am afraid of crashings & dropouts.
can you make a structure of a performance-project, which consists of a sequence of songs?
because of the steinberg-dongle i think, you can use one licence on several computers at different times. is this correct?

Why don't you go on the look-out for a Live Lite version?
Cheap as chips and will do what you want to do just fine
I think I got one with my Saffire, I might want to part with it.. if it's allowed that is. I don't think there's any problem there

I'm working on a performance where near random input from various sensors and even audience plays a big role, which means no rehearsal is possible. I can easily imagine the need to insert effects or tracks or whatever in realtime without stopping everything else. I'm trying to make a setup that is everything-ready, but the mere idea of foreseeing everything is what's ridiculous in this scenario.BONES wrote: Mind you, what sort of idiot gets on stage without everything worked out and rehearsed to death. I'm hoping energyXT will be sufficient, but I haven't tried everything out yet. I was hoping XT2 would be out by December, when the performance is supposed to take place, but who knows...
