Question: Plugin Latency increases with ASIO latency???

Hi there,
I've got a question, maybe I'm just being stupid and all... but which plug-in raises it's latency when the Soundcard latency is raised???
could you please just check that out for me.... have you had that happening to you????
cuz it does happen to me with one plugin I think it's the only one that does that...
wierd

Strange, basically the soundcard latency is always added to the plugins latency, because it is completely independent.multree wrote:I've got a question, maybe I'm just being stupid and all... but which plug-in raises it's latency when the Soundcard latency is raised???
So if your soundcard takes 10ms to copy the input data and the plugin is a linear phase filter, which adds a latency of another 10ms and your soundcard needs another 10ms to actually play that audio then you have a total latency of 30ms.
The reason, why the data may take 10ms through the soundcard may be, because the AD/DA-converters are using sigma/delta technology and a very long linearphase filter. Since filters are LTI systems you could also apply _one_ combined linear filter once, but therefore you'll need to program the AD/DA converters directly which is not possible.
Just some thoughts,
Christian

well in this case the plugin has no latency when processing a wave file (which is playing from inside the sequencer) at small buffersizes (or at least it's not noticeable at 128samples
and when I set the ASIO latency to a higher buffer size the latency increases... and I don't mean input to output....
it's all happening INSIDE the sequencer

I guess the plugin HAS latency, but the latency is fully compensated by the host.multree wrote:well in this case the plugin has no latency when processing a wave file (which is playing from inside the sequencer) at small buffersizes (or at least it's not noticeable at 128samples

erm..no - see the host is FL.... which has PDC but I haven't turned it on yetChristian Budde wrote:I guess the plugin HAS latency, but the latency is fully compensated by the host.multree wrote:well in this case the plugin has no latency when processing a wave file (which is playing from inside the sequencer) at small buffersizes (or at least it's not noticeable at 128samples

but if the PDC would be kicking in there would be no timing difference between a effected track with an uneffected track when working with big buffer sizes would it?
