Kiwi and Soniformer lovers - I like the slope knob a lot. I wish every processor had one. It's kind of like a processor specific contour based on db/octave slopes.
Think "white noise", no slope, every frequency has the same level - pink noise, every octave is 3db lower than the previous - that kind of thing. When viewed in a spectrum analyzer pink noise has a 3db/octave tilt (unless the analyzer compensates to give a horizontal view - some do that).
The default slope in Soniformer is 3db/octave, same as pink noise slope, same as the general slope of much contemporary rock/country music. Once I set the threshold, attack and release curves (many times just 2 points) if I want to push more bass into the compressor then I rotate the slope toward 0db, if I want more highs compressed then rotate the slope towards 6db/octave.
If I want a fairly well balanced mix compressed somewhat equally across the entire freq range then I leave slope at 3db/octave and hit the A+C weighting so the detector pretends to see MORE low bass and treble than what is actually there and turns on the compressor appropriately for those bands. You can see this in the "gains" or input/output spectrum monitor. All of the sudden out of nowhere your audio appears to have more bass and treble according to the spectrum - it doesn't actually but using A+C weighting is kind of like having a sidechain EQ except a standard curve is selected.
So the bottom line is - I guess slope is a kind of sidechain interface, same with weight. The nice thing is the Soniformer spectrum shows it to you.

well if you start with the knob page it's super easy.... and then switch back and forth to see what's going on in the graphical mode... you'll figure it out quite fastWatto wrote:I'm in the same category (getting my head around Soniformer) - the other Voxengo plugins are unbelievable, so I'm going to keep trying!

No need for such knob since you can select *all* control points at once with the right mouse button click, and then drag any control point to move all selected control points where you need them to be.Kiwburger wrote:It would be nice if Soniformer had a Threshold knob - or a simple way to select all the nodes so you can quickly pull the curve up and down. Maybe there is a function there - i'm not a great manual reader, I just like to load and tweak and if it isn't totally intuitive i'm less inclined to use it.

And for moving curves around (in a course fashion) lets not forget the "attenuate" and "amplificate" arrows located between the invert and undo buttons.
If threshold window is selected just right click anywhere in the window to select all nodes, hit an up arrow to raise the entire threshold curve or down arrown to lower it.
...Or grab any single bar (line connecting 2 nodes) after right clicking mouse and drag it up or down to move the entire curve, for more precision hold down the "alt" key while dragging to adjust by "0.1" increments...
