Hi, I just downloaded the SIR for a test.
But didn't get very far - how should
I proceed to the get impulses, which
are needed (the prest bank was empty)?

I went to the page http://noisevault.com
as adiviced but can't find out which
files are suitable for the SIR.

Please advice me those who are familiar with
the secrets of SIR...

Harry
This link will get you to the impulse files:

http://noisevault.com/nv/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=29

Just load one into SIR. SIR has high latency, so it's best to use during audio mixdown.

There are different categories,
none is labeled by "SIR".
My question (see above) was:
which exately are suitable
impulese for the SIR? H.

All of them work with all convo reverbs, don't worry!

Download the impulse wavs on some folders (unzip/rar if they are packed), then open SIR and load a wav into it.

you don't need to use impulse responses either, any .wav will do. I'd much rather use SIR by putting a sample of a cat screaming than a conventional Reverbe impulse.

This has probably been mentioned before but i can't be f**ked reading this thread.

Thanks .jon... and hoffy, I guess. H.
(P.s. I prefer Logic)

The Powercore "classic verb" is pretty untouchable.
Really I have yet to find one purely awesome reverb that works for everything.

I use a Lexicon PCM91 unit, and although it's not as friendly as just using a software reverb I just couldn't find any VST that came close to how good the reverb on that unit is.

But I would say the closest that I've run into have been various convolution reverbs. The problem is that they still take up a lot of CPU and so because of that and the added quality I had to make the choice to go with a hardware unit.

Actually Dreamverb ain't bad if you know how to use it.
I don't know any other verb that gives you so much control.

for good plate verbs check out Sonic Timeworks "ReverbX" the successor of the 4080L.they have a 14 day demoversion. i got better results for vocals than with SIR(EMT 250 + UAD1 Plate,32 bit impulses).the vocals sounded in comparison somehow "more alive"
and better glued with the dry sound.
this reverb also doesn't color the overall sound in a unwanted way it's behaving is nice, unobstrusively.
kind regards......

I don't know why everybody loves the IR reverbs so much. In fact they are fully static and never sound nice in a mix...
I think they are highly overated.

Most of the impulses flowding around are made of very low quality...

I'm not sure if its the convolution istelf that doesn't capture the sound at all, or if its only the impulses that are of low quality.

I got some MPX500 impulses that sound pretty close to the real thing, but many others are not...

just my 2 cent

what's happening with megalov-reverb (its not in the KVR database)make a search here
for megalov and you will find one thread'and download links.
recently i explored my drive and found it again.i was surprised how good i could
tweak lexy-style-sounds with it.it's shurely a huge CPU hog.but for special long tail
effects i mostly do rendering anyway.
on highest quality setting i got absolutely smooth and rich reverb.
kind regards......

Imo the best revs with IR import are:
1. Gigapulse and Altiverb
2. Waves IR1

SIR is unusuable for me because of the high latency. I must tweak it while playing to fit it in the mix. Others may work another way - I must have only realtime plugs.

I think Convolution reverbs are a tricky thing because if it does'nt sound right the problem can lie in either of two places or both- i.e. the plugin itself and its inherent bad qualities, or the impulse responses being used. Sometimes you have to search threw about a million impulse responses to find the right one, no different then finding beat samples to produce beats. But sometimes you can have a good IR but the plugin does'nt utilize it in a good way and somewhat mis-portray's the nature of the IR. So it is crucial to find both good IR's and good Convo plugin. I use wizooverb 2 because i believe it has the most prestine playback of IR's.And reveals their nature most accurately, thus sounding more realistic and transparent (unless your IR has coloring). You just have to know how to set it right and choose the right IR's.Try the demo or listen to the clips on this website- http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/W ... -main.html
