A rock demo (Come Together):

And Beta2:

[edit]
I've added a control for the Growl Amount and slightly changed the model scheme. Now it sounds a bit more aggressive and balanced between low and high notes.
Keep in mind that this plugin simulates mainly a tenor saxophone, which ranges from G# to E for 2 octaves, excluding the overtones.

Might want to update your first post's header to say "beta 2 on page 5" or something like that as methinks this may end up being a many-page affair.

Post

no just edit your first post and put beta 2 in your first post !

Cool

Can you tell us more about the AUTO BENDING?
Is there a logic behind the presets?
I mean,I can see #1 will bend the hell out of anything you through at it but what about the others?
Is it "the higher the number the less chance for bending"?
or something else.

Post

Oh right... I didn't say what it is for.
With Auto Bending you can choose the range in semitones over which the higher note will be automatic bended.
If you set 3, every time you play a minor third interval (e.g.: C - D#), the higher note is bended up.
Optimal settings are 4, 5, 7 or 10 (large intervals).

Tony Ostinato wrote:heheh well sax is brass, (unless you have those silver and/or gold models), and was invented as a crossover between brass and winds. the hope was that it would sound like a trumpet but be as easy to play as a reed. its tone shares a lot of qualities of both and of course a lot of its own. depending on phrasing sax can sound a lot like trumpet, branford on that sting tune fortress around my heart or whatever its called is an example that pops to mind. theres a guy in town i play with whos altissimo is so powerful it soulds like a scream trumpet and has fooled me.

theres no denying the physical modeling of reed, ligature, mouthpiece, crook, keys and pads, body, and even further into players tobgue and lungs isnt going to be daunting, you could spend an infinity modeling it down to infinity.

applause to guido for being one of the few with the chimichangas to attempt the climb.

Let's hear some demos from you!!

Hey Guido,

I think your sax sounds great, and please don't take this as a knock, but in your latest demo "Come Together" there is too much growl.

As a sax player, you would not use that much growl through the whole song. Maybe just to accent certain notes.

I love the detail that you add to you PM models, but perhaps it needs to be more subtle and more of a nuance. Rather than being so "obvious."

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

I agree.......... but it's not a VST problem.
He could have played the same thing without any growl at all if he wouldn't touched the growl controller.
Remember, we guitar and keyboard players need to "learn" how to "play saxophone" with 3 controllers  before we can make it sound convincing.

OK I got some foot controllers, I also managed to get my breath controller working for about 10 minutes then it started failing again. :tantrum:
Luckily I had the record button on:

These Trumpet and Sax instruments are the only vst's that make me want to get a PC just to use them. And they show the expressive potential of physical modeling... It is not whether it exactly duplicates a physical instrument as much as it sounds like one, with the nuance, and expression and feeling that is possible with physical instruments. That is what interests me most. Great job on these!!

Great work Guido!

The latest b2 sounds fantastic. Breath level sounds better, auto bend is smooth, and the AT growl works perfect for me. For inspiation, I went back and listened to the mp3 demo of your PM Sax from the original Milestone thread (page 30). It's the best sounding Sax emulation ever from a midi keyboard. Listening to this again shows me how I have to learn to achieve that level of performance.

Thanks again...

I tried Beta 2 and ...........
I DON'T LIKE IT!

There is slight improvement in the lower registry but everything else pretty much got screwed up.
I will play with it a little more and have more details or even some sound examples. :(

Beta-1 =
Beta-2 = :( :( :(

Post

Beta3 will be half way between b1 and b2 :hihi:
