Hi!
I own FL Studio Producer Edition, Sound Forge Audio Studio, loads of free VST effects and instruments and lite versions of Reason, Live and WaveLab.I'm pretty happy with the setup but I think the one thing I miss is really good effecs - especialy dynamic (EQ, compressor).
I got three options:
1.)Waves Musicians Bundle II (wich will cost me about $300 with the iLok).
2.)Upgrade to Sound Forge ($219 including CD Architect 5).
3.)Trust the free VST efects I got (digitalfishphones, Kjaerhus Audio).
But my question is - Are the plugins that come with Sound Forge are of a "pro" quality ?

I love Sound Forge but don't really use it's effects, the interfaces are fairly "old school" for me, although the FX are OK. Most of them are internal to SF though so I don't know how many you can use in FL if that's what you want to do. Some were external DX plugins but I'm not even sure how many are DX in the latest versions.
I do own the Waves MBII and think it's excellent - the Ren Comp, Ren Vox, Ren EQ and Doubler are excellent plugs and bread and butter for me.
Sound Forge and CDA is a great bundle though.

They're pretty expensive for me, and with Waves I'll get 5 plug-ins.M'Snah wrote:Kjaerhus Gold or PSP are not options for you? Or Izotope Ozone?

In that case, instead of a bundle, you might also want to watch the kvr Market Place forum carefully... 2nd hand licenses for Voxengo, Kjaerhus ,PSP and others visit there regularly. (You could even post a WTB if you really want a specific product).

SoundForge isn't the best way to get EQ's and compressors IMO. As others have said, Voxengo, Kjaerhus, Crysonic, PSP, Izotope etc. make EQ's and compressors that are cheaper than Waves and excellent quality.
I really like the Crysonic plugins at the moment. They've just released a limiter that I like and a compressor is soon to follow. We're talking about $50 per plugin with discounts for bundles and previous customers.
Best of all, no iLok!

I think the Soundforge-effects aren't bad, but not up to Voxengo or Kjaerhus- and others - quality. (But of course, I am no coder who could say valid things about this, I just follow my ears and the bad speakers I got 
).
I wouldn't upgrade to Sony Soundforge any more, because the VST-effect-support is still miserable. There's a walkaround though, I always use EnergyXT as a plugin and chain the vst-effects there that get Soundforge8 to crash.
You might take a look at db-audioware, they got the - for me - wonderful QuantumFX2, that contains over 50 great effects AND, if you'd learn how to build your own effects you need out of modules, a workbench. I love those great effects. The old version (QuantumFX1) was directX too, for your soundforge (if your version is not VST-compatible, I am not sure). Maybe if you'd demo the plugin-suite and write to the developer, he'd give you the directX-version as an addition in case you'd like the thing and would buy it. The man should give you a discount . The reverbs are a bit on the weak side for me, but the other stuff is great.
Great EQs and compressors for a fair price are, as already mentioned, from Kjaerhus, Voxengo and Budde (other might tell you more, Poshipfoit and Electri-Q are his products. The first is excellent, the 2nd is said to be better, but I don't own it).
A cheap and great thing I like is from eleveyta, FreEQ_Boy. All of his plugins are great, and those for example run in every host without problems, only Soundforge crashes here with them.
The free stuff you mention is for my ears really great too, so maybe you'd try to make songs you love and then trust your ears if you're satisfied with your effects you used for it. And there are many freebies around for you to test, sidechain-compressors, the tbtaudio-stuff and more great effects!
