There's a bug in earlier versions of Live. If you're routing MIDI from one plugin to another it always comes out as Channel 1. Do any of you beta testers know if this has been fixed in v6?

No it hasn't been fixed. There is still a problem with Live and midi plugs in general (all the Sonicbytes plugs don't work properly in Live). Ableton would more likely then not say it was the plugs fault and not Live's And the fanboys would tell you there is some convoluted workaround involving racks, pitchshifting, and whatever else. When all you want to do is have the chords on channel 1 and the bass on channel 2. Sorry if I sound bitter.

Thanks C.S. It's a strange one. Given the way MIDI messages are passed, they must be actively forcing to ch 1 and I can't see a good reason why.
I've asked the same question over at the Ableton forum. It'll be interesting to see what reply(s) I get.

Could you explain the problem better?

the midi in live has had constant bugs, they just keep adding more bloat and not fixing important aspects of the host

I can try.
Here's a routing diagram for Playa in Live5...

Playa can send MIDI to different channels (typically chords to ch1, bass to ch2, melody to ch3 etc). This allows a multi-timbral VSTi to set a different voice for each job.
Live ignores the different channel info and sends them all to channel1.

Thanks for the explanation. Now it makes sense to me. I did not find your post on the Live forum. If you post the link here I will go support it cause I agree, that looks like a bug. Playa-1 should be channel 1, not all channels.

can you explain any repeatable bugs. I'll post them as bug reports on the Live forum. Ableton is fixing stuff right now on the betas so it is a good time.

Ok. It's at http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44862

It seems to have drawn a blank so far

I think you should post the diagram above on your thread. Otherwise it is not clear what you are saying

Post

I have the Live6 beta, but I don't have a multi-out vst midi effect to test with (Mac, so I cannot try your Playa)

I'll give it a while, it hasn't been posted for long yet. As for the midi effects, I understand that most don't work with live. Playa does because its a VSTi not a VST.

Good luck.

For starters you could point them here:

Even though it was brought to their attention already. The same problem is there with Phrazor.

you are right on as of V5, and this is very stupid as it causes me to use 16 live mixer strips to use the incoming 16 channels from my controller.... among other stupid workarounds for stuff....

...another thing that I expected to work in Live that don't, and count my vote on that increasingly "stupid bloatware" that is becoming Live....

they can't do simple things properly like rewire with vst, midi vst routing and giving access to all vst parameters....

meanwhile they keep re-inventing the wheel making those bad sounding fxes.... overpriced and basic synth and sampler...

they are lousy bastards...

I think you wont get much reply as is. I didn't know what you were talking about until you posted the diagram, then it makes sense that you have a good point.
