Hi remixers (& er... karaoke aficionados),

I've just put up on my website Voice Trap V2.0. It's a free upgrade for registered Voice Trap users.

There are two new features:
  1. I've developed a complete new separation engine. Cepstral liftering (yes it's a weird term, no it's not a spelling mistake) is an advanced mathematical technique for identifying and modifying harmonically rich groups of frequencies, in a way that cannot be achieved with FFT-based center-channel techniques alone.

BTW, "cepstrum" is an anagram of "spectrum", and "lifter" is an anagram of "filter". Oh those crazy mathematicians! (I'm not making this up...)

In practice, combining the two methods means that vocal suppression and isolation is even more effective, particularly on "problem" tracks where the vocal has stereo ambience.

I'm not aware of any other vocal suppression and isolation plugins that use cepstral liftering.
  2. The Centre Width and Phase Window controls now each have an associated "profile" control that allows both the center channel width and associated phase window to vary according to frequency.
You are cordially invited to check it out at by clicking on my sig below. (Sadly, in this case my practice of a so-called "demo version" is really only good for checking compatibility with your host apps.)

ciao,
Trevor Magnusson

Clone ensemble does some really cool VSTs. Like, for instance, the clone ensemble plugin.

Bass Chorus is God; can't believe it's not payware!! :o

TrevorMag, if you're listening: the demo of Voice Trap I think is a little over-crippled, isn't it? I can't get any idea of how well this thing works if it's completely disabled... :?

most of the plugs are not in the kvr database, though. what a shame. :(

That's where things get submitted to the KVR database.
I just learned that you don't have to be the dev that made them to submit them.

Alright! Who's up for the task? I'd gladly do it, but I'm busy at work and then I'm off to dinner with the Mrs.

I can't do it because I don't own them (though I lust after them) so I can't take the required creenshots.

Just trying to be helpful - Bass Chorus was one of my first freeware VSTs.

I'll look at doing that in the next couple of days. The only issue I have is remembering to update the listing each time I release a new version...
Would it be acceptable to just put the freebies there?

i think it would bring your plugins a lot more exposure if they were all listed in the database. don't worry about updating, just put general screenshots and description.
even for major version changes it'd still be better having an old entry than none at all, imho. :)

I am not quite sure I am worthy of the title "God's maker" But feel free to donate!

I am listerning. :) I'll consider a slight loosening up of the demo - the policy is a bit patchy (Alien Solo is so useful in demo mode a lot of buggers don't bother registering, while Voice Trap is pretty useless and Clone Ensemble is somewhere in the middle).

If I do anything I'll call it V2.0a (which doesn't change the screenshot), so look for it in the "Change Log" section at the bottom of www.cloneensemble.com/vt_main.htm in a few days.

Donate! Good idea. I will when I get paid. :tu:

About the demo: if that will increase the likelihood of cracking, don't worry about it - but what about beeps or silence? You still get the idea of the plug, and it drives you slowly insane until you purchase! Happened to me many times this year! But the way it is now, it simply didn't do a thing to the song I inserted it on.

Thanks for listening! :D

Update: I've put up V2.0a, which is more useful when in demo mode. I sure hope it's still annoying enough to get folk to register... :scared:

I've also submitted my whole catalog to the KVR database.

Personally,

I swear by Clone Ensemble. I bought it when Trevor first put it out and then updated to the latest edition not that long ago. We're talking really fantastic and useful plugins here!
