To my ears, c05 is the best :).

Post

Yes, I tried to match attack and release, especially attack, but I also wanted to get a similar rms and peak values and to optimize the sound. Not easy, and the values on the comps are very different so one has to do it by ear.

Post

hey were did you get am\track demo from! i would like to try that one were is the url

Post

I'm going with C02 as well. C08 is almost the same, but C02 has a little better response on the snares, while preserving the rest of the spectrum as well as C08 does.

C07 and C05 are also good, and would probably be fine depending on the rest of the mix and what you're after, as they emphasize certain spectral ranges differently.

At some point any test like this will come down to subjective opinions.

Post

I think c08 is by far the best. It's the most "stable" and adds a quite pleasing character. c02 is a bit similar but much less stable.. it kind of wobbles or pumps a bit wrong.

Here is a little test I made. Any comments?
Once the results are revealed I would like to put these files up on the "All about compressors" thread. Is this ok with you?

Cheers!

bmaniac, I'd like to listen to your files, but my quicktime somehow can't play it back but does some strange noise... could you upload them somewhere as a wave file? that'd be nice

Post

That's very strange. They should be normal .wav files. I rendered them in FL Studio. Hmm.. try to use "save as" and play with some other player?

Btw. Quicktime plays them fine here. They are 16bit 44,1kHz .wav files.

Hope you get them to work. In the mean time, here's one more example before going to bed. :)

Cheers!

I vote for C02 as well.

you're right bmaniac... somehow, quicktime seems to be set as the default player for audio files in firefox here and I thought it was quicktime format, but now I can play em back in winamp...

(i can achieve this sound via software as you can hear, but it maxes out even my athlon 64 x2!! and the latency is just toooo big  )

That's the best of all of them. The first one you posted is a bit mushy. This one's solid Rok On.
:D

We're at war, dont ya know.

Oh and as for the samples, I did like #2. Also #8 it had an interesting attack. But I really did like that last one that got posted. It sounded so different from the others that I wonder if the settings were different?

What did you use as a matter of interest?
