Ok that's it, feel free to missinterpret this aswell, i'm getting used to it anyway.
regardless of this thread - you very well may have to get used to it. especially on an internet forum with loads of native speakers from different countries and cultures as well as the many users who aren't native speakers of english.
add to that different philosophies with regards to music, music appreciation and technology and its uses and you very well may have to adjust to constant misunderstandings.

yeah, stating the obvious, but i guess sometimes it can be very frustrating when one doesn't try adapt to such an environment. :(

good luck. ;)

I hate to keep rubbing it in people's faces, but I have had absolutely no problems with Kore (except for the feet). I think that probably most people who use it have no problems, and therefore have no need to come to a forum about it, and therefore do not post about it. I am betting that overall the customer satsifaction rate is pretty high, but on forums like this you don't see the happy customers, you see the disgruntled ones, the people seeking help, or those who just want to complain.

Yeah, getting too riled up about a piece of equipment that isn't perfect is a luxury. What's really important in life? Manufacturing problems happen, and as long as a company takes responsibility for it and replaces defective units, that's the best that can happen. Having been in manufacturing (outsourcing actually), it's really hard to have every unit inspected and working properly. Especially when they are manufactured overseas, by people who don't really care about the quality of it. I tend to get frustrated if it happens to me, of course i want my new gear to play with, but it doesn't hurt my life...

Sorry for the rant...

I've had absolutely no trouble with my Kore controller (except for the feet)
It feels pretty sturdy to me, even survived a two foot drop!

YAY FEET! It just sounds funny that NI is sending little rubber feet out in the mail... I picture like little rubber action figure feet that we attach to our Kore controllers, maybe even the kind you can wind up and it hops around... "Can you please send me some feet, I'd like four..."

Sorry... :hihi:

So you have to return it, and wait until they replace it, and HOPE that the new unit doesn't have problems?

That's B***S***T. Sorry, but NI should be hold responsable for those things.
:nutter:

What on earth do you mean by "should be held responsible"? Errrr, if you'd read the replies, you'd realise they actually stuck their own hand up and took responsibility and are sending a new unit to McKenic. I assume by "held responsible" you mean you think you'd deserve compensation or something? Must be American... :hihi:
That's a ridiculous attitude - next time you personally make a mistake on absolutely anything, we can sue you, can we? When you short change a bus driver, we can sue you because you're defrauding our tax-paid services, can we?

Actually...I'm pretty impressed by the response you and others seem to have received from NI. Ask anyone who has bought loads of h/w on the past, and you'll get a whole range of answers re support and quality control etc. I've bought the odd item off reputable dealers from reputable manufacturers, and when the item has turned out to be faulty, it's really not that unusual for the manufacturer to turn around and say "it's not our problem...contact your dealer for a replacement". Which stinks, by the way. If it's a manufacturing fault, I fail to see why either the buyer or the dealer should be penalised.

I'll harp on about Sony till the cows come home - if it was a Sony product. you would have been told to f**k off forthwith, no buts, no ifs. They did that with their consumer DAT machines - loads of them faulty, and not a single one replaced or fixed by Sony themselves - if you were lucky and bought from decent dealers (I got one from Richer Sounds - top notch support from them :tu: ) then the dealers fixed them. Some dealers said no (and really, it wasn't their responsibility to fix/replace, unless the unit was broken in the shop/warehouse/shipping etc) and then those owners took the whole price of very expensive fixing upon themselves. Sony even managed to get away with it in court (f**k knows how)...broke almost every sales law known to the Western world at the time.

So NI are one of the few companies who apparently didn't need much prompting to replace dodgy items. That, believe me, is very good service and support. Obviously there is an issue about the original quality...I would be a little concerned at a unit that seems to have so many flimsy components...it doesn't bode well for longevity...but then at least there's a chance NI might fix things further down the line too.

And McKenic...you mention about being reticent about returning items or getting them fixed (it's a very British thing...you're British, I assume?). Me too...but I got over that, after several years of haggling with some dodgy manufacturers. You were absolutely right to demand a replacement unit. You could have gone for simple replacement parts (which some manufacturers try to do). I never go that route with a new purchase if possible. There's always a chance that if a brand new unit is faulty in one aspect, that something else has gone wrong, or will do in the near future too. So replace it, not fix it, if you can.

1) You don't want a sealed unit opened up and fiddled with by even the manufacturers if you can help it...it just increases the possibilities of other things being buggered up.

2) Resale. It's h/w, so one day you might want to sell it. So you should always have it in pristine condidtion from new. If it's scratched etc - you personally might be able to put up with it, but a buyer might not. If you damage it while in your own use, then there's nothing to be done, but if you buy it already damaged, you have lost money right from the start in resale value.

3) Surface scratching etc...they say it's done in manufacturing. But how? For all you know, it's been scratched because it's been thrown about or handled carelessly in the manufacturing process, or in the shipping, or anywhere. If there are scratches on the surface, how can you be sure there's nothing been knocked loose inside that won't show until after the warranty runs out? (That's something many don't think about). Warranties don't last that long, do they?

I really am quite impressed by NI - dodgy items, for sure, but they've shown an extremely good attitude compared to some. Support is one of the reasons people buy instead of pirate (amongst other reasons) - when s/w goes wrong, you want to know there's some way of hopefully sorting it. H/w is the same - NI have shown they might be there if you need them in the future. And as Kore is designed as a h/w s/w interface, then support is even more important, IMO.

Never, ever feel guilty about demanding a new item in pristine condition (if it's full retail price at least...). It is your one and only chance to absolutely garauntee what you have bought is what was sold. The moment you waive those rights, it's dig-in-your-pocket time, usually.

Some good points there indeed kritikon!!!

I've not had to return any hardware in the past so it was indeed a learning curve for me - Im Irish BTW and believe me Irish folk sure know how to complain :hihi:

Your points about re-sale are well said... anything I get from eBay I always try to bid on the item that is in original box etc... so I fully agree with you!

So far so good with NI... my Komplete3 upgrade promptly arrived JUST after I mailed the KORE back, so lots of fun but I have to wait for patch assignments/creating my own multis etc... :hihi:

I'll post here once the new unit arrives but Yep... a fairly happy NI customer here :tu:

So an update folks...

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and opinions on this. My Kore finally arrived around the 25th of last month. Everything looks good thus far...

Ive not had the time to 'dive-in' to any great depth yet but from a pure external viewpoint - the dodgy plastic and unsensitive controll knob issues are a thing of the past :)

It took some time to get sorted out and up and running with Kore - not to mention €35 shipping back to NI for something that was not my fault...

But Im happy and thankful to NI support for their time and Im looking forward to using Kore as the centre of my production method!

Thanks again all for the thoughts!

ok i'm sure this definately is not the right thread for it, but the 'right threads' are WAAAY too long and i haven't really found this answer, so a request of you all..

can someone explain, like in one short post (please no giant debate), maybe in point form, what exactly Kore is and does and why it's exciting.

I don't get it - not meant as a dig, i haven't had time to look deeply at it at all (my fault) and the info i have found is quite ambiguous

thanks! 8)
