I think part of the problem is that when CD technology came around in the early 1980s, 44.1khz @ 16 bits was already pushing the envelope, as far as A/D and D/A converters were concerned. Unfortunately, this makes the high end somewhat brittle and fatiguing on the ears. However, compared to the snap, crackle, and pop sound of all my favorite vinyl discs, I'll still take digital. At some point, commercial CDs are going to have to go 96khz @ 24 bits or higher, and then you won't be able to hear the difference between digital and live sound.

Are there any articles or interviews online with his thougths on this? I do not prefer one method over the other, I just like reading pros thoughts on this; including folks on KVR.

When I first unveiled my music for friends, one comment that surprised me was how "professional" it sounded. I disagree, but I think that might be a side affect from creating a song from begining to end. My point is, maybe this stuff is only important to the artist and future musicians.

I remember before I really got into this I did not dissect cds the way I do now. Now I REALLY listen and try to imagine how everything was created.

Werner Heisenberg told me that analog was just what I listened to when I was a wee lad and then when hormones were raging and that's why I like it. And besides, if I watch it it will change.
But then, the idea that anything that vibrates paper with electrons to make sound is "natural" strikes me as funny anyway.

High quality pro analog is better than low quality consumer digital.

My tube amp is better than your amp sim because all I have to do to play a club of any size is turn the damn thing on, and I can kick it and get the craziest reverb crash sound in the world.

What would you have to setup to play a 500 seat club with Amplitube, and what happens when you kick it? When you jump on top of it? Does it go to 11?

not sure I agree with all that...I reckon my pod 2.0 live run through my 400 watt power amp might fill that 500 seat room as well as my boogie....perhaps that's why they call it "live". I'm also not sure just because something is all tubes does not mean it is "high quality pro-audio" when compared to some of the high-end line six stuff or other similar products...the only thing I can say is both are great, and both have their place

Who's Steve Albini? Sounds like a plurality of very pale people. Like a flock of sheep...a rinse of Albinis? Did you know a flock of crows is apparently called a murder of crows? Funny that.

And anything that goes up to 11 has to be better than anything that only goes up to 10. Trouble is you can get 10 and 11 in both the digital AND analogue worlds. If analogue stuff went up to 12, then it'd obviously be better without need to dispute it, cos digital doesn't do the number 2. Am I right?
