No Vst effect can touch Abelton's beat repeat (in its category of course) as far as playability, ease of use, fun factor are concerned.

I just can't believe no one cloned it yet, is it patented or something ?

Personal dignity, I'd presume.
I've never used it but I'm sure I've used every piece of freeware ever mentioned here and yet I use them all, for different things. No need to copy anything; there's a lot of brilliant work being done with buffer effects.

Post

Have you tried arcDevs Cyclotron X2 ?
Not quite beat repeat, but in the same area ...

Post

I've tried most, if not all, of them and beat repeat too.
Nothing is as good as ableton's effect trust me...

I'm not bashing any developper here, some of the buffer vsts are great, but beat repeat is just perfect to me.

Post

...while not exactly the same as beat repeat, xoxos does have some beat mangling FX that functions similar to it...who knows...maybe he'll put out some more beat manglers if we're lucky

Post

Yeah the best ones to me have already been mentionned.

Xoxo's gum, is pretty neat cause it can be fine tuned, and the step seq approach makes it really controllable, eventhough it lacks the live tweaking part, but that's not what it's intended for anyway.

Cyclotron is really cool, but produces much more hardcore FSU sound than beat repeat, not the same purpose too...

Phutboyslim and instajungle are cool too (especially the former), they are the more 'beat repeat like' i guess, but they lack some ease of use and moreover tweakability over B.R. IMO.

Post

Have you tried SupaTrigga, Daft Funk or LiveSlice? They are all in the KVR database and may be closer to what you are looking for (or maybe not, I've never used beat repeat so I'm just guessing). :)
the way is not a religious or political statement

why, what does it do?
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Abelton's beat repeat is just a great tool, you cant beat it.
