Ozone vs. T-Racks

I use T-racks when I am working more with real instruments like guitar tracks, and ozone when I am doing more electronic music.

This sums it up right on the money.
I totaly agree.

In the end it always seems to boil down to whatever works best for the situation, as you both pointed out both izotope and t-racks has their strenghths and weaknesses, It's mainly a matter of wich one will you get the most use out of if you like but can't afford both.

I would go with Ozone as it has a larger, easier to use interface and is more detailed and scientific. T-Racks is just too small and fiddly for effective mastering work, plus with Ozone you get reverb and exciter. I like the sound of T-Racks, but it's just too gimmicky comapred to Ozone, IMHO.

In my admitedly biased opinion I think T-Racks sounds better and is easier to use. But this also the opinion of a lot of esoundz customers and pro musicians I've talked to and that is a large number of people. I use T-Racks myself all the time and I really think that because it is useful for both mastering AND for mixing (it is really 5 plug-ins in one, sep comp, eq etc. and actually I used it all the time for mixing) that it is something to have in your set up regardless of the comparison. Even if you already HAD Ozone I think T-Racks is worth getting.

Ozone can also be used as a vst within your host program, t-racks 24 i believe is stand-alone only.

Yes but the vst version of t-racks cost more then 24 wich i think is stand-alone only. The t-racks plugin suit costs more then Ozone and would make Ozone the cheaper buy.But t-racks 24 costs the same as Ozone.

Ozone has a hell of a lot more to offer. It also gets a lot of use here as a track plug as well. Not even in the same league IMHO. Owned T-Racks and sold it for next to nothing, which is what it is worth.

Are T-RackS and Ozone the only two all-in-one mastering suites (I mean not a bundle of multiple plugins from a developer, but really a totally integrated plugin) ?

I have both Ozone3 and T-Racks plugins.
I believe that the best of each of these suites is: Ozone3 maximizer (no GR - just smooth loudness beats T-Racks Dynamics) Tracks EQ (high shelf beats Ozone3 EQ).

I'm currently using each of these on the master buss in a remaster I'm doing at the project studio.

K-Slash T-Racks come in seperate plugs (comp, EQ, MB) but they were originally developed as T-Racks24 which was a standalone integrated suite. I think they just broke them apart and updated the sound slightly for the VST/DX versions.

We are definitely planning on an Ozone 4. The Ozone team is still looking for ideas and suggestions for things we can put into it, so if there's something specific you really want to see in Ozone 4 let me know, and I'll send them a feature request.

thx for the info...i'm sure they will include oversampling in t-racks 2 (like they did in amplitube 2, to get rid of aliasing and get better eq-curves). the eq in t-racks has the same problems with bells in the high-mids and highs like 100 other digital eqs at 44k.

that would be also my comment to the ozone guys: your eq in analog mode has the same problems like t-racks eq described above.

and plz, whatever it takes as far as cpu, use it, this is 2006(double core and quad cores).

Quad Core ? By now it's planned for Q1 2007 with Intel and Q3 2007 for AMD. But yeah we are soon in the end of 2006 so let's optimize the products for multicore .

My vote also goes to Ozone. Many here said that they like T-Racks because it has the distinctive sound. Now, in my opinion that is good reason to run away from it as fast as I can. I agree that I would maybe like something to color the sound when mixing and recording, but IMHO a mastering suite must NOT color the sound any further.

Other reasons why I like Ozone is the integrated use all-in-one plus the ease of use, while the detail for serious tweaking is just another one click away.

In the end it all boils down to what you like.

T-Racks is good. It only colours the final mix if you allow it to. The pre-sets are way too obnoxious, go easy on the settings and you should end up with a stella master.
