lots a girl sax players now, i know like 10 that work around here. not so many girl trumpeters.

quite a few of us a pro sax players, i play sax and trumpet and wind synth for a living.

Please appreciate the scope of whats being attempted here, id wager few instruments will be as hard to model as sax.

my wife actually plays sax as well,

Tony/Ben,

I've fooled around with my WX5 settings, and now I see what you're talking about in terms of the "frap" effect on the attack. For me, its not so much the fact that it's overpowering as that it doesn't modulate with the controller dynamics the way one would intuitively expect.

Is it my imagination, or does one have to blow considerably harder to get a decent sound in Sax-o-phunk than one does with MilesTone? On one hand, the response on my WX5 is pretty darned close to my memories of a real tenor sax. On the other hand, I'm an aging, out-of-practice alto player, and it seems like Sax-o-phunk is making me work so hard to get any decent tone that I don't have much "headroom" to really blow. MilesTone gets into a nice response curve at a lower pressure level. I never played trumpet, so I don't know what that should feel like.

And a last question for the other WX5ers: Do you use the computed or the constant velocity setting? Having attack-based velocity as well as the breath controller output is certainly more expressive, but the latency I get on the attacks makes it difficult to impossible to get crisp timing, so I've been using the all-velocities-are-100 setting on the controller. What do you guys use? I know how to play a little ahead of the beat to give an instrument time to react - something one learns playing a horn but which is also useful for keyboard synthesizers - and maybe it's just a question of integrating the lag with one's technique. But it *does* feel like a really nasty lag to me.

Oh, yeah, a comment on the plug itself: While I think Sax-o-phunk would benefit from some additional tweaking, mostly in terms of making some constant parameters vary a bit as a function of others (see my previous posts) I'm pleased to report that I was correct when I anticipated that Guido's sax would be better than the Arturia Brass saxophone model. Sax-o-phunk is only "realistic" in a relatively restricted range of pitch and pressure, but in that range it ain't bad, and even outside that range it's a cool instrument. I never did find a range where the Arturia product sounded even remotely like a saxophone. I believe someone else described it as sounding more like "a kazoo played through a guitar practice amp", and they weren't far off!

heh, well, i keep comin back to its really really really hard. i mean, you know, physics and all....

but i too was suprised, no, shocked!!! at how good the independent developers do at PM vs. the big guns, its not even a contest at this point. further out still is that they do it with synthedit and custom modules. KUDOS!!

Anyone hear seen my topic about designing your plugs look in ironcad :)

When did it go missing? Who was the last person to have seen it? Does it have a microchip?

Sounds weird and airy, I like it! I'm playing a sax-o-guitar.

Hey Guido,

Any news on an update for this?

I would love to see this developed further. And some more work done to improve the attack.

At the moment I basically have to play everything legato on my wx5, because the attack is too strong. Even if I try to adjust the settings it still doesn't respond right.

This is such a great instrument and I hope it will continue to develop further and be refined.

Regards,

Ben H
