Yes, sounds just like Ableton's warp markers. Very nice - except for people who already have Live of course (in my case, both will be wanting my money around the same time for upgrades - it could be time to make a choice...).

- Change the way you work with virtual instruments forever

Maybe something like Live's instrument racks? Gapless audio? And/or single track lane for virtual instruments that combines MIDI/Audio as in, erm, Live. See above....

- Sound better than ever before

Presumably something "under the hood".

If the best new plugin is really just yet another compressor, that's a bit disappointing.

I must admit I can't think of anything right now that would make me want to upgrade. sonar5 is excellent and I don't find myself wanting for anything.

I'll see what s6 has to offer - but I do find myself thinking "what more could I actually need/want?"

If the best new plugin is really just yet another compressor, that's a bit disappointing.

I don't have it - someone in the Sonar forum copied the text and described the compressor, and that's supposedly about all there is to the ad (it's mostly advertising the "buy Sonar 5, get Sonar 6 free" promo).

Another plugin I wouldn't be surprised to see in Sonar 6 would be Kinetic 2's Dropzone sampler, since Cakewalk often (but not always) bring new plugins from one sequencer to another. It looks like a nice upgrade from SFZ, the only sampler currently included - kind of a "Simpler" style, easy-to-use sampler.

That's about all I've been able to gather so far. If there's Live-style tempo manipulation, that might sell me, but it took a few updates for Cakewalk's last foray into pitch/tempo manipulation, V-Vocal, to be stable/useable. As someone that's been using Sonar for a while, I mostly want the minutia that long-time users want (better keybinding support, quicker zoom options, improvements to existing features like the Dock View and the Loop Browser, etc.).

No, but seriously, I hope they fix some of the bugs. They should really do that before making it even more bloated. How many god damned compressors do you need? Fixing, for example, the bug that makes it crash when you audition a MIDI effect would be more valuable than getting yet another compressor or reverb, in my opinion.

The ability to insert vst fx in midi tracks, I find mfx really missing the boat
streamlined side-chaining
Improved midi editing, Clicking a editing tool bar should have gone with Windows 98
I wish all the included fx were available in other applications as vst's or at least Dx. I understand why they(Cakewalk) would not care about this but it would make upgrading a lot easier to take.

On the up side they've made some great improvements handling audio

I should just set up an automatic withdrawl of $190 from my bank account to Cakewalk every year for these Sonar upgrades. It'd take a lot of the thought out of it.

I still consider myself a loyal Cakewalk customer, but no more automatic yearly upgrades for me. Another year, another cut-and-paste job on their manual--and the associated cottage industry of books and tutorials.

It isn't only Cakewalk--it's the damn 12-month production cycle. I want to see the "i's" dotted and the "t's" crossed. A year just doesn't seem like enough time for a small company to design, code, oversee beta-testing, manufacture, advertise, and distribute a new version.

I don't want only to read the splashy ads. I want to really know what they've actually got underneath the marketing package.

Cakewalk is my favorite software company. But, for me, even their feet must be put to the fire.

Funny how this thread changed from being a prediction quest for what features will be in Sonar6.....into a rant-fest about how Cakewalk upgrades too damn often and a wishlist of what people WISH would be in the upgrade, but you know darn well probably will not be.

Oh another thing I think they might be inclined to do this year is add an instrument or two. Perhaps Rapture Lite.
