No, it doesn't prevent me, but if I need to get back to the download for a new version or whatever and I have forgotten my password (likely these days with 10 billion accounts), once I lose my ISP, I'm screwed.

yup, as my penis is about averagely sized I'm not ashamed to wank it off every now and then - but if it was extremely small I wouldn't even dare to look at it...

...do you have a small penis, Xander? :hihi:

OK - i've cooled off a little now. I had just spent a frustratingly long day backing up about a years worth of plugin downloads, representing literally thousands of dollars. Extracting keys and reg files from dozens of emails, and trying to match everything up for my next PC purchase.

And realising that despite the large quanitities of CD's, DVD's and harddisks cluttering up my room, most of this software is worthless to me because it's old and out-of-date.

I just bought the PSP TotalPack, and I have to say I love the way PSP manage this for their customers. You can log into your account, see the software you have resistered, see the latest versions and download them. It's not confusing.

I prefer the sites that have a full featured demo that just makes noises until you register it. That's easy to manage, and I know that I can get the latest version (i.e. latest bug fixes) at any time.

OK - so I misunderstood how Kjaerhus handles this (it's not clear from their website or from their emails, in my opinion). Now that I understand what he's doing, it's not too bad I suppose. It means not only do I have to backup the reg file and the last .dll, I have to remember the secret location of the real download site, for the inevitable bug fixes. That's an extra complication I don't really need.

I can see from the various replies that i'm not the only one who was confused about this. Other people thought that you could register the demo.

To the person who thought I actually wanted a feature limited demo - you totally missed my point. What I want is easy access to the latest update/bug fix. I'm more used to the Voxengo model, of downloading the latest "demo" and registering it.

The confusion is that Torben's "demo" has the "register now" feature, which browses to find the reg file. Pardon my ignorance, but that sort of suggested that he was using the "unlock the demo" model, and not the "get the full featured product from the secret location" model.

I have too many plugins, obviously.

I might suggust you try what I do. Every plugin you get anything for, you have a separate directory for for your 'archive'. For me, my archive, I have a plugin directory with individual directories inside. For example, any updates I get for let's say Octopus, I put in the Octopus folder. Also, I copy and paste from my email into a notepad .txt file, and save it in the directory as well. Some directories have just the text file, some have multiple updates, it depends what you want ot keep for each plugin. This way, when I do re-install (which I have from scratch) everything is in one spot. No emails to dig for, and hopefully the latest version of each piece of software that I've previously downloaded.

What am I what?

Or do you mean how old I am?

In any case I'm always glad to amuse people, even if the true cause for their amusement is their own stupidity... :|

That's what I do, now at least. It's hard to co-ordinate this over several PC's over several years. I think a couple of external harddrives might be in order, rather than CD's or DVD's.

This was just my misunderstanding of what Torben was doing. A simple message in his demo version would have made it clear that the demo was not full-featured or unlockable. I think it was also a language thing - I misinterpreted his web-page statement about registered user's not being able to unlock the new version.

Also a bit of frustration that Kjaerhus plugins in general are not working out for me, so my investement is pretty much wasted.

Just a simple mis-understanding then ;)

Maybe if you told us what sort of difficulty you're having with the plugs, we could help you?

I can use them, I just don't like them anymore. Parametric eq's that can't be swept from 20Hz to 20kHz. 'Flagship' compressor lacking Mix and Sidechain. Also a bit clicky on fast rising transients, and generally not as nice sounding as PSP or Voxengo. A "Gate" that only ducks 80dB and can't go down to digital black. A modulated delay that can't be set accurately to the millisecond. Little things like that - any ideas?

Do you know of any 10 year old who has more than 10,000 posts on an Internet forum and makes fun of peoples' small penises?

I don't have that problem, being black  ;).

I do more or less exactly this except I duplicate it on my pIII internet machine and my main DAW.
I move things I use a lot to the front of alphabetical lists so I have a folder "A VST" up the top of "D drive", nested inside I have folders from every vendor whose work I have downloaded and inside those I have subfolders by product.

If Torben brings out a new version of GCO next month it will go in D:\A VST\ A Kjaerhus\GCO and already in that folder are the product keyfile and some of the older versions of the installer. If the downloaded file has no date or version number I create a subfolder (egs Aug 20 06 or 1.3.1 ) to label it. I cull old versions every so often to limit the space occupied by the whole shebang.

I easily can back this whole thing up to DVD, copy it to spare drive space on another machine across the network and I have two machines with copies of everything.

This 2 machines setup means that I can't just click once to download and then click a second time to install but it provides security and I can find everything easily.

Two Kjaerhus hate threads running at the same time, for what? I simply do not get it. Our products are the way they are; if you like they buy them, if you don't then don't. Our way of upgrading is as easy as can be for the customers. We want a web site for the users as well but this is to take some of the works from our hands; I do not see how this can be easier for the customers than getting an email.

The demo can be registered and the full version can run in trial mode, why? Because it makes it easier for us to maintain two versions as we can reuse most of the code that's why. Do we have to give a deep explanintion on our web site for these details? I do not think so!

If your problem is that you don't like Kjaerhus plugins, then.. .

WHY START A THREAD ABOUT DOWNLOADING ISSUES?

You seem to be just begging for attention, and making up problems. This is really a sad thread. If you don't like Kjaerhus plugins, don't use them. But it's pathetic to start a thread about download issues, for plugins that you don't want to use anyway.
