Altiverb has a "reverse" function.

I haven't tried Altiverb, but a lot of reverbs have a faked "reverse" reverb that actually just has a reverse envelope, but still happens after the originating sound.

Real reverse reverb, you can hear the sound before it comes. In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins is a particularly famous example. Some of it on The Wall too (and some reverse echo as well.) And the Poltergeist movie. (Such a cliche that they used it on the Family Guy cartoon, when someone got sucked into the TV and ended up with reverse reverb on his voice, he started singing In The Air Tonight.

CSR has a beautiful reverse reverb plugin in it's collection.

CSR has an inverse reverb....

inverse =/= reverse

Inverse is also a nice fx...

The best inverse reverb I've heard so far is the one build into Anwida Spazio.... Nice density and very musical.....

try the demo..... but its a directx plug-in

Actually, I'm impressed that no one talks about Anwida DX Reverber, which has an actual Reverse-Reverber. That works just like those old hardware reverse reverbers.

Huh? There's no such thing as an old hardware reverse reverber, as you inherently need look-ahead to do that.

In the old days it was done by flipping the tape reels around backwards. Applying reverb. Then flipping the tape back forwards.

Hardware reverbs with "reverse" (better to call it inverse) don't make the same "precognition" effect. A sound happens, then a moment later a reverb sound BUILDS, instead of decays.

Anyway... Just stating what I remember.

My old Alesis Reverber, I think it was a Quad-Verb or something like that. Had a function where you would have a Reverse-Reverber. It would sample the sound, reverse it, and output it back.

Right, but this thread is about actual reverse reverb, where you hear the reverb coming before the sound that makes it has even been made. (Impossible, yes, hence the need for look-ahead or tape-reversing.)

Yes, lots of digital reverbs had "reverse" algorithms, but they're fake, they just made the early delay taps come in at a lowest volume and the later ones build up to a peak. In the opposite order that you'd normally do it. So you'd get what amounted to an echo that sounded KIND OF like a reverse reverb. But it happened AFTER you played the sound.

rbet's convolution trick with a reversed IR works nicely, I've found. Only problem comes when you try to sync the dry signal with the wet.

Reading through this thread, I'm surprised at how many 'out of the box' solutions there are for this now.
