I need a vst that works like Energy-PRO or the sequencer inside Toxic III. It should just output midi notes and also traspose the pattern up or down accordingly to an input midi note.

Oh almost forgot...preferably free

No, just tried it long time ago but still stuck to ableton live. I'm looking to something simpler that allows me to use my synths in a step-sequencer fashion.

will you use external synths that way?

or vsti?

cant ableton do it on its own, at least for vsti?

did you ask in an ableton forum?

yep, eXT (which you can setup as simple or complex as you like..) or Phrazor I've got both..

yeah tried the arp plugin in eXT and is really what I mean. Cpu usage in ableton isn't bad at all, even if sometimes I experience some troubles with eXT inside Live...

and dont forget, you may get addicted to eXT,
when you give yourself some time to dig into it.
it makes my CubaseSX collecting more and more dust.

yes I think so. eXT is really flexible and since I started making music with my good old Jeskola Buzz I really like eXT modularity!
Something appeared strange in the interaction Live/eXT, but I confess I tried it long time ago, maybe the last version of eXT has some stability improvements...I have to check it again!

Jorgen fixed some bugs related to using eXT in Live a while back. Try it out again.
