I'm beginning to suspect that some people around here don't even make music.

Post

I know runagate. Like, EVERYBODY must have a FIRST SONG! Second song, well I can see quitting before then... but everyone had to do SOMETHING.

*prod, prod!!!* C'mon everyone. This is the best thread ever! Show your most embarassing stuff! Nobody's been laughed at yet! It's actually a great way to show something but have a disclaimer that gets you out of ANY criticism! :D

Here's my first electronic song, made when I didn't know how to make FL do anything other than 1/8th notes. It has a pretty decent cringe factor for me.

Ack! I gotta join something to download it. I've had it with belonging! ;)

And careful, you might make me pull out another me and Momo number... this time with SINGING! :-o

Post

I want to hear Momo singing.
Ya damned hippie.

Heheh, it's me singing actually... the one I'm thinking of anyway.

Ok, if one other person asks for it, I will... but this thread isn't titled "post the first 15 songs you ever made", so I fear I might be being self-(and Momo)-indulgent. ;)

Also, if I post(/publish) these songs here... does that mean I lose my mechanical rights to record them first? Could some band of hot Japanese girls cover them without my permission? (Oh what am I saying? That's EXACTLY what I want to have happen!.... :D)

Post

Nah, you retain the copyright just by having the originals and saying they're copywritten.

You drag the freakin' 2-inch tape or whatever you used into court and you win.

Giving something away for free to 15 people doesn't mean you don't own the copyright.

Besides, seems that too many people are chicken to post their 1st songs or, more likely, don't have them (vurt).

I know, but not the copyright which is ALWAYS yours, but the MECHANICAL RIGHTS. Which are, your right to be the FIRST to record/publish your OWN song! So, someone can't come to one of your concerts, see you try out your new material, then rush home, cover it, and release it before you released it yourself! That's what kept the Byrd's cover of Mr. Tamborine Man in the can for a couple of years, waiting for Bob Dylan to finally release the song on a record himself!

(You can't stop someone from recording your song, as long as they pay you royalties, Adolph Hitler and the Brownshirts or Weird Al or anybody can cover your song and there's dick-all you can do about it. But you have mechanical rights so at least they can't SCOOP you on your OWN song!)

OK... I'm going though old songs... trying to pick one. I might actually do a Momo-sings one. Can you handle 8 minutes? :D

(Still waiting for one other "request" too.)

Post

I can always handle an 8 minute song.
That's not even all that uncommon here.

Post

I've deleted even my second-to-last song. My FIRST song? Ridiculous. That was deleted (tossed in a physical rubbish bin, more like) in the early 80s at the latest).

First song I ever made? Impossible. No recording equipment back then. Anyway, here's the first thing I did and recorded in 1981 or '82 [edit: 1983. Memory's fading...] (ping-pong using 2 cheap tape recorders, Roland SH-101 + Korg PS-3100).... and kept. Be warned - 5.5MB. Have some fun at my expense 8-)

arakula! That's awesome! And oh so familiar. Man, I love the SH-101, so gritty. I used to play one in the last band I was in, but it belonged to one of the other guys (as did the Roland Saturn 09 that I miss so much. Great cheesy organ!)

Oooooooooooh! That sounds like Polymoog! Korg PS-3100 you say? Not familiar with that one. Is the phaser built in?

Love it!!!!

"No recording equipment back then." You mean YOU didn't have any recording equipment? Or you're 80 years old? ;) You must have something from the wire recorder that survived the war.

Yep, nice little synth; I still have mine and won't ever give it away. There's something about "my first synth"... 8-)

[Edit:] here, here, and here you can listen to more of the SH-101/PS-3100 stuff, if you're really interested. All from the same era. Unfortunately, nearly all pieces contain some playing errors <sigh>... never was too good with 'em black and white keys...

See here for a little description of this beast. It has a built-in "Chorus" effect that I used. IIRC, you could only turn it on (HEAVY chorus effect) or off. Plus, it's got some sort of a ring modulator, which I used on this piece, too.

I was about 19 or 20 when I recorded that, so please do the maths for yourself 8-)

 That can't have a filter for each of the 48 keys, can it? It's gotta be like a Polymoog where there's essentially an electronic organ (achieved by 12 oscillators and dividers, each with it's own volume envelope) then it runs through a single filter?

Funny cuz it sounded JUST like a Polymoog to me. Very Gary Numan!

Motormind, coooool! :)
