hahhaha. I didn't get it at first... so it's a downgrade, seeing as they skipped v4 long a go, went to five, and then to SiX.

seems like their logic to move to 4 now. I'm not really looking forward to downgrade to this one.

Looks like the basics are identical, aparat from a few cosmetic updates on GUI. same ol' steinberg style slap-on features all over the place though. Probably not worth the price, if one has a well functioning SX3 already.

Cubase 4 Play?

Post

i never see the point in upgrading if it works. I am still on SX2. As far as I can see, I upgraded all my FX and instruments and got a sampler from 3rd party.. SO if Steiny is finally gonna add some decent internal FX,instruments and a stripped version of Halion, then I think they missed the boat some. While there are some things I coupld use in SX3, it just isnt worth it for me.

I don't think the screenshots actually tell us very much about the upgrade, although project/file/preset management has obviously had an overhaul.

For me to be more interested personally though they will need to give the entire program an overhaul

Any info on what those new devices could be (apart from new synth)

but they do. looking at the channelstrip and mixer compenents visible in many of those, as well as the main arrange page, most changes seem rather cosmetic. All the usual icon clutter is still there, as well as that abohorrent mandatory channel strip EQ, and nothing really has been streamlined.

I'm not really looking forward to the upgrade. SX3 seems perfectly fine as is looking at those shots.

I see what you mean Kingston, and no it doesn't look particularly inspiring on the evidence so far. But I guess there may be far more stuff going on "under the hood", or perhaps a killer featured that the screenshots doesn't yet reveal.

I wonder how long we'll wait for a proper announcement, given that these pictures have been "leaked"?

But as you know, I'm not a Cubase user - I rejected previous versions, and given the points you have already deduced from the screenshots, I guess that I might well dislike the new version just as much as the previous ones. It's a pity, because I would genuinely consider going down the Cubase route if I found the GUI more inspiring and the workflow more intuitive - working in education I see Cubase everywhere, and it would be so easy to succumb and switch.

Well these screenshots were an especially bad disappointment to me. I have a (stein)borg assimilated beta tester friend who early on leaked some of the underhood stuff. I hence expected similar GUI streamlining.

Basically there has been a major engine rewrite, which should in theory be a good thing, and automation has been revised and done with the help of the Euphonix company. There will be automation snapshots feature (kind of an extension to the range tool), which will be one hell of a time saver. Although I'm not sure if some of that is nuendo only.

...anyone noticed that "HALionOne" in the screenshot of the Sound Frame Browser...

...I'm very excited about this update, as it will decide if I'll go on with Cubase or decide that I'll use Live only (and hope for some small improvements in the next versions).

Yes, someone posted about that in this thread already...
