pc racing wheel pedals to midi? is it possible, anyone know?

you know those computer racing wheels? well, they come with pedals and i've always thought they'd be kinda cool if one could use them to send midi cc.
i know there are joystick to midi apps and am myself using my gamepads every once in a while, but pedals would be very useful cause they keep my hands free for other things. (music related, you perverts )

anyone tried it? i've googled, but still don't know if the wheel+pedals will register as a regular joystick with the pedals as additional axes or what... doesn't seem to be any info on the topic out there.
some of them can be had for 15 bucks on ebay, so it'd really be a lot cheaper than 'dedicated' midi pedals, too...

Technically, it's possible. If it doesn't work right out of the box, there are ways to get it to work anyway. Involves some basic electric knowledge and a soldering iron. Max damage: $15 plus shipping and some spare parts plus your own valuable time.

I've recycled a very crappy 4-channel audio mixer. Hooked up the faders instead of the pots in a regular joystick, defined it in Windows as a generic one: two dual-axis joysticks on one port.

yes it is......use abox2 which comes with a human interface editor for usb devices or theres livesticks which converts any game controller to a midi device....both allow you to customise where the input data goes

I bought a cheap steering wheel for this very purpose, but the foot pedal wasn't accurate enough, and it's output wasn't linear. I fixed the non-linearity using FL's Formula Controller, but the pedal just wasn't up to it - there was only a small range in the pedal's up/down travel that seemed to output a decent stream - the first and last third of its movement was either full on or full off.

I guess if you bought a pro set, your pedal would be of a much higher quality, but you'd be paying for it.

I think there's a market for a really simple & cheap USB MIDI foot pedal.

Probably you can do that using rejoyce... I never tried, so I don't know how pedals work. Joystic works well, i think pedals could too... You could try, if you just own them...
