What is the difference between a sample player and a sampler?
I appologize if this is a stupid question.

The sins of marketing.
Traditionally, samplers recorded audio as well as played it back. Some time around 1995, software companies started putting out software samplers that had all the sample playback features of hardware samplers, but omitted that recording feature (for various reasons, some good, some bad). Yet still they called their products samplers as though nothing had changed.
Sticklers who believe samplers should have that recording feature to be fully considered a sampler refer to those other devices as sample players. I often do that, although really the point is moot, since they can just as easily import samples from anywhere, so as long as computers can record, it all works out in the end. Really, a sampler should be any digital instrument that relies on its sound source being recorded audio.
As you can see, splitting hairs mostly.

Oh ok. Thanks for that info. I have Cubase sx3...and no I'm not rich...anymmore. So I'm trying to figure out if I need halion? I tried out hypersonic and that was awsome because it came with so many samples. Not sure if halion does to. Or if I need to go that far. I can't be as creative when I have to go searching for sounds and then just dropping them into cubase. Atleast with the sampler I can go through sounds and try them out.javascript:emoticon('')
