Thank **CK everyone disagrees!. Seriously!

Thats why we are soo god damn lucky to be living in an age where, not only are the hosts insanely powerful, but greatly different in their GUI's and interfaces.

It means there's something for everyone!. Logic, Cubase, Sonar, Digital Performer etc etc etc

We should count our blessings of having such diverse choice with great power, than waste time arguing over what is 'best'

Vegas is still the fastest, lightest multitrack editor I can think of; we still use it at work for most project. For sound fx and foley, it's just so fast; no "Import to Pool-and-convert" garbage, stretch, reverse, crossfade instantly. It'd be nice if Cubase could get that fast with editing; I tend to resist it for large multimedia projects. But it's tha shiz for mixing music.
YES!! Someone who sees eye-to-eye with me exactly. Automatic crossfades, so simple, so effortless. In SX3, by contrast, if I have 3 contiguous clips of audio, and I crossfade the first 2 (by selecting and pressing 'X') ... and then I want to crossfade into the final clip, I can't do it by simply selecting and pressing 'X' again, as it'll just bring up the crossfade editor instead. I have to select the last clip, and then press 'X'. And lord help us if we want to adjust the fade range. Such a hack, such a pain. Give us automatic crossfades with simplicity, and call it a day. People will rejoice. (And notably, this isn't even something that would break compatibility with old projects.)

Word. I should probably write Steinberg sometimes and tell them... :P

Have you looked at SX's 'Auto Fades Settings' menu?

You could select the second clip only and press 'X' to get 2 crossfades at once.

I don't think "Auto-Crossfades" is the same thing, is it?

I haven't used Vegas to be honest, but I thought SX's auto cross fades could be helpfull for MacQ.

point is though, I think that at the rate things are going, Cubase will probably be the better choice in the long run because Apple is only really releasing bug fixes of their sequencer for the forseeable future (and then charging us $70 US to get the upgrade sent out to us). At the time I made the switch, I was pissed though that steinberg was releasing a FULL PAID update every almost annually. That sucks too. That said, the difference in the functionality of the freeze function between SX1 and SX2 or SX2 and SX3 is pretty impressive. but seriously, you could have gotten it right the first time (like Emapple)...
I currently use two hosts. samp and logic. If logic gets the audio of samp or if samp gets midi/environment like logic i will be in heaven. The fact that cubase adds new features is because it was lacking to begin with. Show me essential features which changed from SX1 till SX3 and were not bug fixes.

I am not bashing Cubase. I'm not saying go for logic. What I am trying to say is that one should try ALL possible hosts (even animals :P ) before announcing that Host X is GOD (allah, budha or whatever). I thought i was happy with cubase but when I actually USED logic it wasn't the same. it's like thinking paint is black but until you've seen real black you don't realise it was gray all along.
hmmm,

okay, i used cubase since 3.0 and then 3.5...

I bought 5, SX (skipped SX2 but used it in the studio I worked at before they switched to Logic and PT) and then I got SX3 and now I use Logic Pro 7 (and PT in various studios that I am involved with)...

I just made a crap load of observations about both Cubase and Logic in this thread. go back a bit... you'll find me praising logic as well... they're both great for different reasons. all I was saying was that there are a few things I miss in Logic that were present in Cubase and the rate of updates in Logicland is a little slower (+you have to pay for almost every minor update for some reason)...

that's all

By the time I discovered the DAW world, I had gotten over all that kind of time-wasting nonsense and now only care that the damn thing works for me in the quest to make the kind of music I want. I could give two bleeding shits what other people use.

your HSG.
hehe, anyone remember the NES vs. sega thing or the coke vs. pepsi thing when you were a kid. I think that's where it all began for some of us.

damn, i used to love commodore 64 when i was a kid. when that nintendo thing came out and you didn't have to wait for the game to load, i was in heaven. then i turned 12...
Mate, Commando on the 64 made me the man I am today!

TB
damn i loved that game... but I was all about Spy Hunter and Return of the Jedi... also Predator was amazing as well. I used to play that game for hours...

that's just criminal IMO. My Cubase VST dongle went broke once, thanks to the honest shopkeeper at Midician (Ghent, Belgium) i got a new one right away though.

I actually think it is. On every Audio Track there's an Auto Fades button. Click on this and select the Crossfades tag to change the settings, then click the lil box called Auto Crossfades to activate it.

Oh, and it's been in Cubase since SX1 ;)

Yes, but does this work for you? This doesn't seem to create automatic crossfades, in the sense of Vegas or Sonar, where one clip dragged into another creates a crossfade...

Post

Yes, it works very well. But it doesn't show them as actual crossfades but does the fade anyway. Try setting it to an insanely high amount like 250 ms and then put two audio files so they overlap each other and you'll hear it.

Damage dongles can still be replaced without having to pay for a whole new license.
