Hi, i'm new to this forum but i've been home studio recording for a while now.
I usually record my guitar through my pod xt live into my 16 track mixer then into my soundcard then into cubase sx. Everything fine. I decided i'd try the demo of waves GTR, everything not fine!! Same setup, guitar into pod xt (Preamp Setting, Clean) into cubase sx. Set the waves amp as an insert and try out the settings......but and forgive me if i'm being totally stupid here, but all i can mainly here is the clean sound i get from my pedal, with a hint of the distortion effects from the waves program. So finally, How can i just hear the amp settings from waves manipulating my guitar without the annoying clean sound blending through????

Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Turn off direct monitoring in cubase.

Man that was a quick reply, I have turned off direct monitoring already, i click the little speaker icon for the relevant track and can hear the "effects" coming through, it's just that i can still hear to much of the original guitar sound before the "effects" have been applied. Arghhhh it's sending me insane!!!!

is it possible that you have a soundcard routing problem? you might find that your sound card input is being routed to the cubase ASIO inputs and also being played via the standard wav device, so you hear what cubase is doing , but also the dry signal via another route.

it would not have been a problem before as both were the same.

Ahh that kinda makes sense, in fact a lot of sense now i think about it and the signal of the original sound does come through the ASIO Input and the track input. I have a M -Audio Delta Audiophile 2496. Any ideas on how to get around this?? If any?? Hey thanks for the really quick replys ppl.

There should be a console or mixer view for you soundcard. Do you hear sounds even if the program is not running? If so, mute the input in the console. Hmmm.. but Im not familiar with cubase. For some reason I thought I was in the energyXT forum.
Do not lick the fablanky

Go to M-Audio Control Panel > Mixer (tab) > ana 1/2 in (channel) - and make sure none of the outs are active for that channel.

Cheers for all the help you guys, it something i would of overlooked for i don't know how long!!!!! Just to clarify then, i have muted the input, and the 1/2 output on my soundcard, now i can't hear the guitar until i use the speaker\monitor button within cubase, then i hear the dry clean guitar. Now i add my waves gtr insert an hear that signal! But should i still here the dry signal when i press the monitor icon or am i still doing something wrong??? Sorry to go on about this!!!

Just a thought but are you recording a stereo or mono signal?
I'm not familiar with Waves GTR but when I've tried to do something similar using one of the Gsuite amps, which are mono, inserted over a stereo channel the right channel remains clean.

Post

no, you should not hear the dry signal once you have added the guitar effect into the insert slot in cubase
