This street could go both ways - get samples from works read by the volunteers on LibriVox and on their "for the future - collaborations" part, potentially we audio people could master stuff for them or creat some sort of incredible old-time radio show version of their read works with sound fx and music.

LibriVox - accoustical liberation of books in the public domain
LibriVox wrote:LibriVox recordings are Public Domain in the USA. If you are not in the USA, please verify the copyright status of these works in your own country before downloading, otherwise you may be violating copyright laws.

Well even if the texts are not totally free of copyright - the people uploading the vocal sounds have given away all their rights totally http://librivox.org/public-domain/ - so that means guys can sample 'words' from the text recordings and use those without worrying if the 'text' (ie books, paragraphs etc' are free of copyright.

The sounds have been uploaded with 'no rights reserved' at their site

I wonder how crappy the recordings are and if or not they can be sampled adequately for music.

It's a cool find runagate :)

Indeed, thank you runagate for the heads up, looks like a grrrrreat resource ;)

Oh, and bump.
The mind boggles.

thanks runagate , if the voice is copyright free the text they read isn't in some case (if the writter copyright is still in use)

Cool find, indeed, thx for sharing. About the quality of the recordings: they are linked to the archive.org, where you can listen to them online - just had a laugh when I tried Alice in Wonderland and the playback speed was about 5 times as fast as suppossed:

Well, just listened to a few - recording quality is not THAT bad as you would expect from people reading their favourite novels, but the quality of the speakers is... :-(

So food for phrase or one-word-mangling.

Ha! I've been using this site all summer for poetry samples. It's great. I've got Librivaox stuff all over the group of songs I'm finishing up right now. I even used the words "public domain" off of one of the readings. So far I like Chip's reading the most.

...and another thanks for this nice link :)

hehe, i too have been making use of these recordings in the past. same goes for some of the old educational films up on archive.org and other movies in the public domain, freely available online. 8)

Yeah, I love that we're archiving this old stuff. It's one of the best aspects of the internet IMO.

I'd do free vinyl restoration of old wav cylinders and jazz records if I knew who to tell to send them to me.
