Just got one for $237 w/ one expansion...each expansion goes for different prices...in all I say go for it.
The armchair is more than the sum of the bastards

So, you mean fire Eric, Ildon?

Yep, most of them.

But I was the last part of the chain....lots of people contributed patches and then I would tweak and choose what to present as the finals.

Some of the re-issue stuff was done in Japan though.

Sure....making your own sounds is always the best.
Roland really needs to fire its preset guys.
Yep...we sucked pretty bad. Guess that's why all those Roland synths we did were so unsuccessful.... ;-)

What a wonderful job you did, mate

(You've probably been told this before, but it doesn't hurt to hear it again  )

Like many, I spent a whole chunk of my life playing with those sounds. I remember how excited I was to get a synth with 32 bit envelopes. Press a key and - bang - the attack was instantly up there :o :D

...

Is this nostalgia helping soulata?

I don't know but I wouldn't mind hearing another JV story :hyper: :ud:

Anyone care to take a guess what the actual bit depth and samplerate of the JV format waveforms are?

+1 I still love my jv to death. The best gear investment i ever did!!!

As far as jv stories. Tell us what the real deal with the dance expansion was. (i have one which i bought before it was withdrawn)
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Little known fact....it's 8bit/30khz

The trick is how the engine hypes them back to life! :-)

Roland's technology on compression of samples is quite something.

hmm 8-bits, but surely at least closely related to u-law/a-law variants? 30khz makes a lot of sense though.

Unfortunately, mucho copyright problems with third party supplied samples on that one. Numerous high profile lawsuits, etc. It was the only "recalled" Roland product that I'm aware of. Major headache for everyone in Roland Sound Development in those days. We stopped doing third party stuff the same way after that nightmare.

Using the samples on that board on a commercial release is quite dangerous it turned out! So although it's highly prized these days, watch out on using it because it got a number of Roland end users into lawsuits.

I learned a lot about copyright law from having to deal with that problem though....very useful info for my later adventures into my own sound business.
