Are there the drums from "Test Drive 2" among it? Those were some TIGHT motherf*ckers!dalor wrote:I just sampled some percussion sounds from my Hardsid PCI Soundcard c64 (MOS6581) - 74 .wav samples -, all nice clean cut, normalised and stuff
Ah yeah... and I still got a spare C64, just need to get my lazy ass to actually order the parts for building a midibox SID ( www.ucapps.de ) to implement into my rack. I mean... material cost of around 100bucks max (including the rackcase, if I can find one where I can put my stuff in it) for the most minimal version. Can#t get any better than that. C64 sounds and one of the most evil analog synth I've heard in years.
Don't underestimate the SID chip. And yeah, the best software alternative "is" the QuadraSID. Just hope that Michael Kleps inserts an option sometime to exchange patches with the SIDstation and the mbSID.

Hi Frank, and yea I think the idea is fine. These C64 drumsounds can be a great add-on for those electro-minimalhouse-tracks or maybe just for the occasional chip-tuneXenox.AFL wrote:Metal:

Thanks! That demo was made aeons ago.. in 1990 if I remember it correctly.. and I too actually like the intro-track more than the main-trackbleebsen wrote: And metal: I was listening to your introtrack for "bonzieeed" for months back then. Loved it more than the demo itself

Unfortunately, neither of the two mentioned packs have the "Test Drive" kits. A pity (guess I can only rip them). But still a nice collection. Thanks.

here is the latest pack, it contains all samples from the old pack INCLUDING "digisamples" from Testdrive I+II (Kris Hatlelid), also check out Martin Galways Arkanoid, CombatSchool, GameOver samples and many more such as Feekazoid (alias Paul Hannay) and more...
173 samples, sampled from my HardSID pci soundcard played from the MOS6581

Is all that stuff included, or just the TestDrive material? And what do you mean by "digisamples"? Stuff like Hartwig and Huelsbeck did with Turrican? In other words loading samples (speech, alternate hits, stabs, etc) into the SID chip?dalor wrote:here is the latest pack, it contains all samples from the old pack INCLUDING "digisamples" from Testdrive I+II (Kris Hatlelid), also check out Martin Galways Arkanoid, CombatSchool, GameOver samples and many more such as Feekazoid (alias Paul Hannay) and more...
Just a Q out of the ordinary. You sure use the elder chip. Do you use a single chip or a 4 chip version of the HardSID? (and if you didn't buy the PCI card with the chips on it, where did you get them?). Just curious.dalor wrote:173 samples, sampled from my HardSID pci soundcard played from the MOS6581

It contains the previous zip + the TestDrive material as well + more.Compyfox wrote:Is all that stuff included, or just the TestDrive material?
I'm not sure what you are asking. The first C64 computer had a MOS6581 soundchip (this is what i used to sample all the material), the later C64 and C128 models had a MOS8580, which sounds slightly different. I used an original MOS6581 soundchip to sample all this stuff, you'll find the same soundchip in your old C64 computer.Compyfox wrote:Just a Q out of the ordinary. You sure use the elder chip.
I have a HardSID PCI card with 4 SID chips on board (2xMOS6581 and 2xMOS8580). Of course i sampled the material using one SID chip only (MOS6581), simply because all the original C64 material was originally composed on ONE SID chip only because back then was never a C64 or C128 with more than one SID chip. I didn't create NEW percussions using 4 SID chips, the ZIP contais percussions from existing games and demos using 1 SID chip.Compyfox wrote:Do you use a single chip or a 4 chip version of the HardSID? The SID soundchip is by design not capeable to replay "sampled" sounds (like the voice in "Ghostbustes" or sampled instruments or percussions), it was a trick some people used to make the SID playing sampled sounds by 'quickly' writing 4-bit volume levels into the volume register into the SID (using the NMI). If you played sampled instruments on the c64 it was called "digisamples" or "digisounds" back then.Compyfox wrote:And what do you mean by "digisamples"?

Ah thought so. I'm not that much into the SID chip "as is" (or in other words as "synth") yet, so I don't know it'S "special descriptions" (like "digisounds"), but I thought of the right thing.
Of course I know that the C64 only had one chip. The C64 V1 (aka "Breadbox" or in german "Brotkasten" due to it's brown round design) had the elder 6581 and the later C64 V2 (white one, the very first had the 6581) and/or the C128 had the 8580. Still have 2 running C64's, a C128 with PVC case and a C128 with metal case. I even have the GEOS RAM enhancement, the SAM speech module and at least 2 DATA-Tape drives. So yeah, I lived through the Commodore Era, even though I never really had an Amiga (only got damadged one after I had a Pentium II).
I meantioned "you sure use the old chip" as start of a conversation, nothing more.
But back to the Q with the HardSID PCI card. Did you get the full pack or did you order the SIDs seperately? Cause I speculate building a 2xSID MidiBox and I only have 1 SID (didn't check yet if it's the elder or the newer one) from a spare C64 V2. This is why I was asking if you might maybe know where to get an additional chip (preferably the 6581).
Thanks again for the pack. I'll check it out later.
