Ya I'm wondering the same thing but can't get replies either:( I tried Hypersonic and it was awsome but I don't know how it compares to Halion? what the differences are? I read the description of them both but it doesn't really help me out being a newbie and all. It's like reading german or something. Can't find a free trial version of f Halion? Good luck.

EDIT: EXS, not EXSP....
Which host are you running? With EXS24 being built into Logic, it's kind of a disincentive to getting anything else. And EXS is pretty good, it's just that it's not the most common format when you buy sample sets.

Well, EXS24 is ofcourse a great solution but only for people who are using the Pro Version of Apple, all others can only use EXS24 and Player and it's called there EXSP24 Sythie..
Well, another great Instrument could be... *own Advertising on*
Cronox3/Sophistry from LinPlug, the Synth can load 136 Sampels into the Ram (2 Oscilltors, everyone can use 68 Sampels)... CronoX3 Demo is ofcourse available, check out the Demo version, since I own it I only use it as Samples, instead of using the normal waveforms as the source you can use your own Sampels, great stuff.. Last but not least you can do "granular synthesis" but.. Check it out..
First I wont post something to this topic because i am involved into this Software Synthesizer, i did a lot of sounds for booth Synthesizers (CronoX3/Sophistry) and a lot of Sampels (Sophistry)...
*own Advertising off* (sorry for that)

Ahem.... sorry Frank, I like CronoX3 a lot, but in the name of "truth": http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109171
It really is quite tedious to map multisamples in CronoX, it's not really meant for that.
Seems that the only serious VST/AU samplers for Mac are Kontakt 2 and MOTU Mach Five. Or is it possible to use EXS24 outside of Logic (is it an Audio Unit)?
I've been looking for a sampler for Mac for some time, and it always seems to boil down to Kontakt, but I can't stand its user interface...
EDIT: Ouch, I forgot HALion, but it's VST only. I would like to be able to use the same sampler in Live (Mac version hosts AUs) and Cubase (VST only).
EDIT2: Add Yellow Tools Independence to the list of Mac VST&AU software samplers.

Here's a word for Sophistry... if you have ChronoX3, get it!
Great sounds, great price...

Also, if Redmatica ever releases Keymap, you might not need anything else besides EXS24... Don't know when it's supposed to be, was July 06 last I heard??

Halion 3 is also AU ( http://www.steinberg.net/630_1.html ). But it is not universal binary so far.Cone wrote: EDIT: Ouch, I forgot HALion, but it's VST only. I would like to be able to use the same sampler in Live (Mac version hosts AUs) and Cubase (VST only).

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.

Right you are. Sorry for misleading anyone. Why don't they just make Cubase 4 an Audio Unit host too... That would be something.Sargon wrote:Halion 3 is also AU ( http://www.steinberg.net/630_1.html ). But it is not universal binary so far.
I don't think there's too much solid information about when the Steinberg plugins will be Universal Binary (see for example http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=51678). Basically Steinberg, NI and Korg are keeping me from getting an Intel Mac. NI is supposed to have UBs during Q3 this year, Korg... who knows.

Cone:
Well, I like Cronox3/Sophsitry and i have no problem using it as Sampler, I love it, really..! When I do sampling by my own i am doing the sampling in the same way, like many people I think, for that sampling Session I made a "Preset" and I use this preset again and again so this is no problem...! Ofcourse there is something to change at Sophistry ofcourse, there could be some improvements but anyway, I still like it and used it a lot...!

I have Logic Pro 7 and NI Komplete as well as Cronox3. Seriously, for drums, I just use UltraBeat (comes with Logic Pro 7 and it loads drum samples) and for pitched material, I find that Kontakt seems to be the best in allowing for some cool sound design. I used to love the nn-xt and redrum samplers in reason and I find that these 2 samplers let me have all of the same features i had in reason with a whole lot more. word of note, I have noticed a small difference in sound quality between loading up the same sample in both ESX24 and Kontakt (the EXS sounds nicer to my ears but what do i know). still, the gui and all of the powerful sound design features in Kontakt 2 make it an excellent choice of sampler for me...
