I know this question should have been asked at least 54687987 times already, but i have made a search and didn't find the answer....
Since some days, i find all my reverb sound a bit metallic and not fine enough in the bass range.
THis must be my ears, but this might also mean i should try some other stuff

SO I'm basically looking for a dark& nice-sounding reverb, free or cheap, with THE good sound.

(at the moment, i'm using a lot GlaceVerb, which is amazing and very verstaile, and sometimes also Ambience or KarmaFX reverb, or my host's one withsome tweakings. They all are very good to me, but i can't find the sound i want unless i tweak them to death, so i guess they just mightn't be done for that purpose...)
This is really a 101 "newbie" question, but sometimes, it is good to get in 'tabula rassa' mode !

Any advices ?

you could try xhip reverb or ANWIDA Soft DX Reverb Light.
I don't really like free reverb plugins since I always find them very metallic (Ambience) or "echoish" (Glaceverb).

Personnaly I'm in love with Arts Acoustic Reverb, but for a reverb plate type, the late Audio Damage Reverence could be exactly what you're looking for. (it's quite cheap afaik)

You could also try EQ before or after reverb if your host allows it (if it allws modular routing or has at least an aux bus).

I didn't know xhip's one was dark sounding...
You're right, Ambience is excellent, very versatile, but sounds metallic (which can be good sometimes)...
Anwida is DX only, isn't it ?
Arts Acoustic is out of budget for me, buti'll give it a try, or still use IR...

[and... any news regarding Wavosaur ? ]

THat's what i do with the KarmaFX reverb's embedded filters, and it is good, but not really what i'm looking for...
The Voxengo Old school reverb is fine too, but i want something else !

That's very subjective obviously, at least it's a pretty nice verb, though a bit "echoish" too... but hey, it's free so you can check it out at once.

Be sure to try the demo of Audio Damage Reverence.

I know a little bit about the AD stuff. But i like too much demo-ing a plugin before buying it.
And even if i like the demo of the Deverb plugin, the demo of Reverence doesn't mean anything to me... I want to try t out on drums, on synths, on whatever I want, and not only relying on a demo... I know Ad has the reputation to be cheap, but a single efx is the price of EnergyXT or Reaper, so i really would like to be able to demo it before buying it...

Audio Damage has a money-back 30-day trial period. Better than a demo imho.

I think Reverence is exactly what you're looking for. Unless you have more money...then I recommend the IK CSR verb. It's got awesome plate sounds imho.

Princeton Digital 2016 plate reverb is outstanding! Take a listen to it. $99 is cheap for it.

Cheaper reverbs generally do sound more grainy or metallic. It is worth the time and money to invest in one of the smoother verbs.
If you want darker, Dreamverb can be configured this way very easily.

Firebird : How does Dreamverb compare to Realverb Pro? I must confess that when I tried the demo I didn't really play around with it nearly as much as I should have ....

Of course, the UAD-1 Plate 140 plugin has absolutely *incredible* plate verbs.
