I have seen the comparison chart for Samplitude SE and it it states that it allows for 2 internal / 2 VST, Direct X effect inserts.. Does that mean 4 total or 2 total? It makes me think 4 total and you can use internal only on 2 of them and external only on 2 of them.. Is that correct? Also is says 4 FX sends and returns, not sure what that means.. Perhaps refering to the inserts?

Also down at the very bottom of the comparison chart is says "Export: Broadcast Wave (inkl. BWF Timestamp), MPEG 1 Audio Layer II, MP3" and it says it won't do that.. I do hope it can export audio in regular WAV format to make CDs with or it would be worthless.. The link to the comparison chart is below.. Could someone with Samplitude SE post some screen shots of the mixer fully expanded so I can see it with nothing hidden.. If I'm gonna pay $50.00 for it I would like some detailed screen shots and more details on it..

You are correct it is 2 internal and 2 VST which would make a total of 4 inserts. You can add 4 send "aux" tracks and 4 buses. It can export waves in 16, 24 and 32 bits but can't export mp3's as it only imports mp3's. It is available for free as part of Computer Music magazine # 103. Pay 14.99 instead of $50. Let me know if you need somemore help cause I had questions about Samp SE before I got my mag and barely got responses but I did get some help.

Thanks, that helps alot.. I have some decent VST plugs I got from here for free which will work for the external ones, and I believe that the ones that come with SE are pretty good too, so that makes 4 really usable inserts.. Plus the 4 band EQ is not counted in those 4 cause its seperate.. Do you or anyone else have a link I could use to buy that computer music magazine to get the $15.00 version?

I wish they had included track freezing in SE, but its a good deal anyway because the interface is pretty much identical to the more expensive versions..

Its funny that Magix Music Studio 11 Deluxe has track freezing, more plugins with a pitch correction plug for vocals..

The downfall for Music Studio 11 is that the MIDI is not integrated, and Midi is handled from an outside app that looks like it came from the 1960's.. Which kills it for me.. If it handled it in the same way as Samplitude, I would be looking more seriously into that..

I have FL Studio 6 for midi. I'm using FL as a vsti in samplitude and then do my mixing and recording in Sampl. Do a search for Future publising.

If anyone is interested, you can order a back issue of Computer Music Magazine #103 (Summer 2006) through the link below. The prices are listed in British pounds. It translates to about $17.00 or so, but it is better than $50.00 through Magix.

I bought SE a few weeks ago and so far haven't used it for shit due to very poor documentation and the midi seems really retarded. You can make a midi track, but there's no part inserted unless you make an object and I've had problems setting legnth, etc with it so much that I really haven't bothered at all with it. There's no demo track either, so there's nothing to reverse engineer at all.

Very dissapointed in this thing so far.

Well from what I have seen, midi and audio are integrated on the same tracks.. There is no audio or midi its just adding a track. You have to change the input source from audio to midi and insert a midi instrument by adding it in to the inserts, or by selecting a midi instrument as the output which should add it as an insert I believe. You can do all that in mixer view.

Also I would start a project either at 10 minutes or at a custom of 5 or 6 minutes. I assume that you just export the parts of that you want to at export when exporting a wav file for CD..

Doesn't work...

I tried to follow my own link and it didn't work... You'll have to use this one and navigate to computer music magazine under the Music & Film tab.. After that there will be a link for ordering a single or back issue.. Be sure that you get the "Summer 2006" issue for Samplitude SE..

CM103 is currently on the newsstands here in Toronto (we're so behind here in the colonies!). I bought a copy last night, and installed the SE. Don't know when i'll have a chance to play with it; I'm having too much fun with Reaper right now :D

The mag has some very basic tutorials, but like Sickle said, it would be great if there was a Samplitude demo project we could play with. Does anyone know where to pick up a demo Samplitude project, or would anyone be willing to make available one of their simpler projects?

So many toys, so little time...

Last night I got Samp SE to load Mr. Ray and play it through the amp sim. That was as far as I got. It is fun trying out new software, but also really frustrating. I was interested in it mainly to see what the experienced dudes on the Reaper forum were talking about. Some of those folks seem to have tried every DAW ever made, but the best bits seem to be all ending up in Reaper.

It's kind of weird that if you click on help, it talks about Sequoia, not Samplitude SE. I recorded some midi, but I couldn't figure out how to edit it or loop it. The program is not much crippled, and it looks nice, but with no real manual, no demo project, and not much support at the samplitude site, it's a bit tough. The folks who answer questions at the newcomer's site tend to post links to discussions in the regular site that you aren't allowed to read. If it weren't for Reaper, I'd probably put some effort into this and it'd be great, but it seems like Reaper is more intuitive, and probably more powerful. If the idea is to get people to upgrade to Samp V9, I don't think it will work. CM probably sold a bunch of extra magazines though.
