So simple it's stupid, this VST just takes a stereo signal, mixes it together, and spits the mono-ized mix back out. It seems like there has to be something like this already out there, but I couldn't find it, and making my own was quicker than looking.

I told you that you'd be disappointed. Image

what you were probably looking for when you made this?

@stupid american pig: This one can blend the mono and stereo signals

Man...only if flstudio spat out a mono file when you put a mono in :| Out of curiosity, can that 'harm' the sound any? always having to mix a mono track back down to mono from a stereo one?

Yeah, that would have done the trick. Oh well, there's 20 minutes I'll never get back

Just taking a stereo file with identical L and R tracks, and making a mono file? It shouldn't.

Yeah, that's all that's happening. Basically if you import a mono file into fls, it splits it into a 'stereo' track when you export it again. I don't see the point in that, cos all you end up with are files twice as big as they should be. :P but if it doesn't harm it opening it in soundforge or whatever and re-merge the channels, then it's not such a problem, just silliness. :P

Btw, as simple as your plug is, it's a very handy thing to have around (i'm sure you already know that though. :P) It's a nice tool to give breathing space by turning it on and off on a stereo track when stereo isn't particularly needed at that point.

hopefully Gol will come to his senses and change this in FL.

Actually, now that I think about it, depending on the mix algorithm being used, it might be possible for there to be some rounding error if L and R are mixed together in SoundForge. It depends....I mean, you're basically doing (0.5*L)+(0.5*R) or 0.5 * (L+R). In a perfect world, the mixed signal should be unaffected, but since there's a finite number of floating point places, I guess rounding error is possible (maybe). So, if you're taking your stereo mix from FL that has identical L and R channels, it's probably best to create a mono file from *either* L or R.

Yeah, actually, I was working on a sound design, and I had a great recording of a car's tires screeching from left to right, but I needed right to left. Normally, I would have just converted the file to mono, but I got tired of doing that, and decided a VST could do it for me.

Thanks,
Tom
